I’m Such a Square

Well gals, I’ve shared some pretty personal stuff over the last several months, but this one is going to be hard to top. I’m finally going to show you one of my square dancing outfits. I know, I know, you’ve been greedily anticipating the day when I would completely lose it and finally show off what a “square” (ha ha) I am, and now, it arrives with no coercion or torture being involved.

So why am I showing you?

1) I’m a show off. It’s what I do.
2) Because hey, it could have been worse.
3) It’s one of the few pictures of me where I have only one chin.
4) So when you see a picture of me six months from now and looking skinnier and tres hot, you’ll be suitably impressed.
5) And because it’s good for a laugh.

And because I want to show off Neil’s cool new hula outfit (he’s the one of the left – isn’t he a cutie?):

So obviously not quite the usual square dancing get up. Our club put on a Luau earlier this month and we had a blast. Other clubs in neighbouring cities came out and for once, we weren’t the only young ones there. We booked the babysitters for extra late that night and stayed up dancing till…well, till 9:30pm. I mean, most of the other dancers are in their eighties after all.
Actually, that’s not a fair comment to make, since I sat out more dances than they did and they were still going strong up till the last. Where do they get the energy?!?
Seriously, I hope I have that much vim and vigour when I get to that age. Not to mention that nearly all the other ladies have nicer legs than me. Even the gal whose had both hips replaced!
I really need to start working out more.

Fun pictures! That sounds like so much fun. I can just picture all the old ladies and men dancing around having a great time. I hope I can do that at that age.

If I lived closer, I would come square dance with you … even if I had to drag my DH along. It sounds like so much fun!

And you are the hottest square I have ever seen :)!!

    Good on you! Love it.

These ‘old’ people? Where do they get it? On this 450km, 9 day bike ride that we went on last week, the average age was 50 something!!

I am so going to be a bike-riding, square dancing type when I hit the golden age! And the only way to make sure of it is to be doing it NOW. Go you!

Dedee – If I can breathe tomorrow (sinus infection – ugh!)I’ll call you during the girls’ naptime!
Terina – I so love that idea! Sadly, not my kitchen. Stay tuned for pics of mine, as that’s what I’m tackling during the 30 day organizational challenge. How’s that for a teaser?
Tracey – That’s the ticket! Whoohoo!
Kate – I have every confidence in Neil’s powers of persuasion. As to whether or not he’d agree to, I don’t know. =P
Jo – I have enough trouble keeping up with my kids! I peek in about once a week. =)
Gerbil – I was so against it at first, but love it now. It’s fun being the youngest one by a few decades.
NCS – Struttin’ Teh Hotness for all to see. Oh yeah!

You’s ah purdy lady! Yeehaw! Square dancing doesn’t seem so bad. My husband and I would love to take dancing lessons (he wants to do salsa, I think we would need to work up to that and try ballroom first). I’m hoping we’ll be able to try it this summer. Anyway, it sounds like a great thing to do together and requires no kids! Yeehaw to that! :)

I’m already impressed! You two are adorable!

We like to country dance but everyone there is 18 so we look like we’re the ones with the hip replacements.

Don’t you know? The great Prophet of the 80’s, Huey Lewis and his merry band, The News, declared to the world that indeed, it is, “Hip To Be Square.” Amen.

Except for Wendy’s hamburgers. I think square beef patties are a bit unsettling.

Deanne – It’s definitely been an ideal date night for us. Sure adding some weird items to our wardrobes though!
Lara – Hee hee…maybe we’ll try that next!
Kara – If we weren’t blessed with kids that go to bed early, we probably wouldn’t be doing it!
Strauss – I’m an enigma wrapped in a mystery hidden in a rubix cube alright. =P Thanks!
Angie – I know what you mean, which is why I toss one up every now and then. =)
EWBL – I know! What’s with the square patties?! Like burgers aren’t hard enough to eat as it is!
Annie – Not exactly, but some of the old fellows get a little too touchy feely during the promenades. Used to creep me out big time…now I think it’s just plain cute.
