One Hundred!

by Kym on March 15, 2007

Home at last! I’m quickly going to dash through these questions so I can get on with telling you about our trip. I had about a dozen different post ideas while we were away and only hope I can remember one or two! My favourite bit is that one of the wedding guests ended up drunk and naked wandering around the hotel. Neil said I’m not allowed to blog about it because that’s not fair to the person, but how can I keep that entirely to myself?? Hee hee!

Here are the long awaited answers:

Favorite flower? Sunflower.
Favorite season? Autumn without a doubt. I love the autumnal colours, wind in the trees, the musky smell in the air, the cool weather reprieve after the harshness of summer…I could go on and on about this subject.
Favorite month? September.
Favorite indulgence? Bubble bath with a good book, the kind of book that makes you not notice when the water goes cold.
Favorite memory while dating your husband … before you got married? Hee hee…the time Neil and I accidentally fell asleep on my roomate’s futon, and my mom called in the morning and found out. My very calm mannered father got very upset when my mom told him. Offered to go out and buy a gun, as I recall. We just cuddled! Honest!!
What are your hobbies? Reading, Blogging, Crocheting, Cross-stitching, Singing, Playing Piano, Going for long rambly walks…
How many kids do you want? Four.
How far have you traveled? The furthest I’ve been from home is Minneapolis Minnsota. How exotic, eh?
Have you been outside of Canada? Only to the U.S. I dream of getting off this continent some day!
What do you like to do on Saturdays? Spend time with Neil and the girls. We like to go for walks, able around the town, play in the yard in good weather, etc…Saturday is our family day.
What size shoe do you wear? Nine.
Pet peeve? Jay-walkers. I think if you’re going to break the law and risk your life you should do it really, really fast.
Favorite movie? Almost as hard to pick as favourite book. I’d say Baptists at our BBQ.
Favorite book? The Cosmic Trilogy, by C.S. Lewis. I get something more out of it everytime I read it.
Favorite spot to read? Cuddled up in a warm bed.
Best movie you have seen so far this year (2007 only, new or old). Stranger than Fiction.
Worse movie you have ever watched. The Man in the Iron Mask, but it was the best worst because I had the guy I had a crush on on one side of me, and the funniest gal at church on the other, and we spent the whole time mocking it. A very happy memory, actually.
Favorite pet and name. Corky the Cat of Nibbles the Hamster? It’s a toss up, I tell you.
How many blogs do you follow? Used to follow forty, but I recently cut it down to 24. I was using my meagre supply of creativity on the myriad of comments I was making instead of on my own blog. Hope nobody hates me for cutting them!
“The Time Traveler’s Wife”: they are making the movie, your thoughts. Bad idea. It’s one of those books that simply can’t be made into a movie properly. Yes, there’s loads of interesting action and naked people running about, but the soul of the book won’t make it. There’s so much depth and complexity to Audrey Niffenegger’s writing, a movie can’t capture that. It’s a brilliant book. Graphic and shocking, but brilliant. I have a hard time admitting that I read it, because of the nature of it, but I was absolutely entranced. It was, in certain respects, a life altering experience. It taught me to treasure time in a way I never had before.
Least favorite animal? Anteater. They creep me out for some reason.
At what age did you learn how to swim? Can’t remember so I must’ve been young.
Favorite all-time band. Without a doubt – U2.
What did you think when you say Super Happy Girl for the first time? I so don’t understand this question!
how long have you been married? Six years this May.
how did you meet your husband? My church congregation traveled five hours east to volunteer at the welfare orchard there. Neil was a local and came to “play host” as he put it. We got chatting while sorting apples on a conveyor belt across from one another, he took me on a tour of the orchard and…well…~ahem~ So we ended up kissing under an apple tree and an hour or two later my friends sent a search party, with flashlights, to look for me. Yep. Kind of embarrassing. We kept in touch by e-mail and five hour long phone calls. Met in September, engaged in January, and married in May.
favorite blog to read (just kidding, I already know it’s mine – hahahaha) Tough one! Umm…~runs and hides~ I’m a coward, okay??
what did you want to be when you grew up? An editor for a big publishing house.
how many siblings do you have? One of each, and both younger (Rob and Jen).
favorite animal? Turtle. And I’ve no idea why, I just think they’re nifty looking.
favorite restaurant? Olive Garden!
If you could pick a name for yourself, what would it be? Good one! Mmm…Clara or Claire, I think.
How many pairs of shoes do you own? About ten?
How many do you wear? Six?
Why did the chicken cross the road? To give people like us something to make up silly stories and giggle about.
Will you be my friend? Awww…that’s the best question yet, Chick. Done!
What is your biggest fear? Bees!
Do you sing? I love to sing and recently started trying to develop my abilities more (I used to be too shy). I’ve now sung two solos at church.
How much TV do you watch? About an hour every night.
What is your favorite snack? Ruffles sour cream and onion chips. We never buy them though!
How did your parents choose your name? I think they heard it via the Miss America pageant and thought it sounded pretty.
How did you choose your childrens’ names? I’ve always liked more traditional old-fashioned names. Emma was going to be Emily (one of my favourite girlhood friends), but a month or two before she was born we decided we liked Emma even better. Becca was going to be Sarah, but it just didn’t fit, and Becca did. We called her Rebecca because it’s nice to have more than one option, isn’t it?
What is your favorite holiday? Christmas!
Do you have a middle name? Do you like it? Dawn, and I like the way it flows with my first name.
What would be the perfect vacation? Disney cruise.
What would your fortune cookie say? Avoid long trips without your kids?
Do you like shopping? Depends on who with, where, etc…and also on my mood. Yes and no, I’d say.
What is your favorite drink? I live on water, but I do enjoy cranberry-raspberry mixes.
Are you right or left handed? Right.
Can you keep a secret? Depends who from! For the most part I’m very trustworthy.
Earliest memory? Sitting on an avacado green vinyl bench at the hospital where my little brother was born, and eating cheese and crackers that my Dad got from the vending machine while we waited for Mom to be ready. I was 18 months old. Neither of my parents remember this, by the way.
Best Day (not including wedding & births of children)? A year or two ago Neil and I were driving up to Vancouver to visit family. We spent
the whole trip talking about a huge variety of topics, for hours straight. We had good laughs, some serious thought-provoking stuff. It was simply idyllic.
Worst/scariest day? The day Becca’s finger got pinched in the door and she had to be rushed to the hospital.
Secret Ambition? To write something worth publishing.
Are you a dog person or a cat person? Either. I’m not a pet person though. I think pets deserve more than I can give.
If you won $1,000,000 what would you do first? Pay off our debt. Boring answer, but true.
Has your life turned out better than you thought it would? Definitely! I thought I was heading for spinsterhood before I met Neil. I could go on and on about that, but I’ll save it for a blog post some day.
Your favorite 80′s tv show? Full House – gack!
Your worst habit? Nose picking.
Quality you most like in yourself? My newfound ability to laugh and not take things as seriously as I used to.
Milk chocolate or dark? Milk!
Favorite quote(s)? “Is it arrogant to quote yourself?” – Me.
Most creative parenting moment? I haven’t really had many yet. I guess teaching our girls to roar so they won’t get as scared.
Are you more like your mom or your dad? My dad, physically, and my mom in every other way.
What makes you think a book is EXCELLENT? That indefinable quality that causes me to forget that what I’m reading is fiction.
What makes you come back to a blog? The ability to make me laugh or make me think.
When are you most “you?” When I’m cuddling with my husband, tickling my girls, blogging…
What do you like best about yourself? Physically, I really like my big brown eyes.
What do you do when no one is looking that no one would guess? I love to let loose and dance!
What is the longest you have ever gone without washing your hair? Five days.
What size shoe do you wear? Nine.
What is the story behind your most unusual scar? I have a scar under my lip, not especially visible unless you look for it. I slipped at the local swimming pool one sumer and split it open on the side of the pool deck.
What are your favorite tunes on your iPod? Don’t have it yet! I decided that I’m going to earn it as a weight loss reward. I get the iPod when I hit 180. Only nine pounds to go!
What is your preferred form of exercise? Walking. I don’t like jiggling.
What is your favorite childhood book? Narnia.
How many words do you type per minute? 75-80.
Where were you married? The Seattle Temple.
Are you really going to answer all these questions? But of course!
What scent do you most associate with childhood? The musty smell of old houses. I had two great-grandma’s we would visit and their houses both had very distinctive smells.
Describe your favorite pair of socks. I love any socks that are funky…flowers and stripes, neat patterns, etc. My favourite pair at the moment are black with funky flowers on ‘em.
What’s your favorite color? Anything autumnal.
What’s your favorite food? Varies. Right now I’d say filet mignon! (we had it at the wedding)
What does heaven look at to you? Like the earth, but perfected.
What is something you haven’t done yet in your life that you would like to? Travel somewhere exotic.
What adventure would you most like to do? Sky diving.
What country you would like to visit? Italy tops my list right now.
Do you have a hidden talent that no knows about? Nope. I’m a braggart and therefore hide nothing.
What is your favorite kind of cheese? Either sharp cheddar or jalapeno havarti. Mmm….
Do you read in pictures or words? Pictures. A good book opens the curtain on the movie screen of my mind.
Will you come over to my blog and check out the embarrassing picture of Annie? Gladly!
Would you kiss cheese? What kind of cheese would you kiss? I’ve never thought of cheese as particularly kissable, to be honest.
Favourite thing about pregnancy? All the attention and not having to do so much (I’m lazy, remember?).
Now that you’ve read Anne of Green Gables, what do you think? Loooove Anne. The books bring out such a deep, heartfelt appreciation in me. They awaken the imagination, and remind one to hope. I adore the series.

Great meme Kim! Congrats on 100 posts. I need to see how many I have. I know it’s nowhere near 100. Have a super week!

Congrats on the 100th post and even more congrats on answering the gazillion questions we asked you. How many were there? Whatever it was, it’s very impressive.

I am glad you are home and I am glad I made it into your Top 24 …. at least I better be in the Top 24 :)!!

Awesome Kim. I did learn a few things. Was I surprised? Not particularly. Except you commenting that you are a braggert. Not that I’m surprised that you would say it, but the old Kim never would have had the nerve. New Kim is fun! Love your way. I can’t wait to hear about your trip!

I love autumn too. You answered the shoes size question twice. I love how you met your husband. Don’t ever go on long trips without your small children. The first time I did it, I flew home early once we got to port in Puerto Rico. The second time I did it, I cried for a week in Singapore. I am tempted to leave them again, for a third time, now that they are older. SAM doesn’t want to waste the money on me again.

“It is not the least bit arrogant to quote oneself when one is as brilliant as we happen to be.” –me

Heheh…brilliant, my dear. You’re downright endearing.

Oh and this I love:

“…the kind of book that makes you not notice when the water goes cold.”

Well said.

That is a great list and a really good way to decide on questions. I looked at other people’s lists. It took forever, but that was okay, I was sick and had nothing better to do. You make me laugh!

Too far behind on my blog reading to answer y’all…so just a general thanks and a few specific comments. Also mild amazement that anyone bothered to read any of that. =P

Annie – we’re so in synch on this one, that’s exactly how it was.
Jo – Yup. Nicole on one side, James Burns on the other. He just got married finally, by the way. Amazing, eh?
EWBL – But of course! I saw reruns, anyway. =P

by Kimberly on March 20, 2007 at 5:21 pm. #

I thought it must’ve been Nicole, because she was beside me on one side, and we were both ‘on’ that night and giggled through the whole movie providing snarky commentary.

by Nurse Pickles on March 20, 2007 at 7:21 pm. #

congrats on yor 100th. I think we have more that a handful of things in common:)
