Spring is in the Air
by Kym on March 23, 2007
When Emma woke from her nap yesterday, we cuddled on the couch. Cheek to cheek we giggled and exchanged eskimo kisses.
The light skiff of snow that had fallen earlier in the day had been washed away by a rainfall quickly turned to hail, and as we gazed out the window, there was a suden flurry of feathered activity. Dozens of robins alit in our yard! The sight seemed incongruous to me. Bright chested robins scratching about in our scrubby grass, menacing clouds pressing down on the landscape, the ice choked lake in the distance. Surely where there are robins there should be sunshine?
Oh, but you should have seen Emma’s eyes! How they widened at the sight!
I found myself reflecting about the battle between earth and sky that has played out here over the past few weeks. The sky, clinging to winter, insistently pours out it’s snow, hail, and chilly rains. And the earth, suffused with Spring, refuses to be frozen again. Once again, that faint hint of green touches the scene, and the very air seems changed somehow…charged with the restless energy of approaching Spring. Now there is a contagion that I welcome gladly!
I found myself feeling almost poetic, and wrote the first poem I’ve written since Emma’s birth.
Quietude
Spring beckons coyly
hinting at sweetness
tantalizing buds speak of newness
in delicate, filmly whispers
frost obscures hope
till haltingly, warmth seeps through
and hearts are touched to quietude
in ponderance of the Spring

I don’t want to break up the serenic beauty of your post but Houston is having a mini heat wave and I’m sweating buckets trying to whip my weed filled, ant infested yard into shape. I developed a….well….there’s no easu way to say this…..A RASH!
I am the only red breasted creature alighting in the Infidel yard today.

…light skiff of snow. All of the sudden I felt so Mexican and lamented my lack of knowledge of fancy English words.
I love that poem, so serene.

EWBL – Hydrocortizone works wonders! Your poor pink person you.
NCS – It’s entirely possible I made up that word. It’s a nasty habit I picked up somewhere. I tried learning other languages, but it’s not my strong point, that’s for certain, so I just focus on the one. And thanks!

Wow! You can now add poet to your resume. Very impressive. I like the word quietude and how you explained the “battle between earth and sky.” I really hope the earth wins … and soon! Enough rain, enough clouds, please can I have some warmth. Why does Houston have to hog it all … just because it is a bigger state doesn’t mean it needs to be so stingy.

It’s been pretty muggy here. Not too hot, but with the humidity it seems much hotter. Icky.

Lucy & Kate – Thanks!
Burg – I’m dreading summer in some ways, and keenly anticipating it in others.

Oooo, I likes your name.
Speaking of breasts, at the wedding last weekend Neil’s bossy aunt asked my what bra size I wore. Said she’d just been custom fitted and turned out she was an H instead of the D she thought she was, and then went on to say that I was bigger! What the?!? Neil’s cousin gave me a hug a few minutes later and whispered that Auntie Ria was off her rocker.
~sigh~

Was the cousin male or femal? Perhaps said cousin was trying to literally get a feel for your bra size too under the guise of ‘friendly hug.’

Oh, and you can’t throw a stone without hitting at least one Melissa born in the 1970′s. You may wing a couple 1970′s era Jennifers and Amys in the process too.

~snigger~ Female. But you never know these days.
I had the dubious honour of being dubbed “Miller” during my school days, because of the Plethora of Kimberly’s running about. Still remember in Grade 9 someone shouted out, “Hey Kim!”. I turned, and they said scathingly, “Not -you-”. Ouch!
