Embarrassing Moment #2

While pregnant with Emma I cherished the hope of having a red headed baby. There was a tendency towards red on both sides of our family, so I thought there was a good chance.

Neil? Thought otherwise. And he all but rolled his eyes when I babbled cheerfully to friends and family about my hairy hopes.

When they first put Emma in my arms, I felt a surge of triumph. Purple scrunched up face, and vivid red hair! If I’d had the energy, I would have gloated gleefully.

Later, after she’d been cleaned up, they brought her to me again. Her squalling purple face had settled into that lovely mottled pink of a healthy newborn, and her hair? Brown.

“What happened to her red hair?”, I asked dazedly.

“Kim,” Neil replied, in an exasperated tone, “that was blood.”

    ROFL!!!!
Okay, it’s so fun getting to know you better. I’ve already decided I would love to meet you someday.

I have always wanted a red headed child. I was hoping my latest might have been blessed so. her hair looks slightly strawberry blonde in the sunlight and she’s but 4 months, so I am still holding out hope. My Uncles and Aunt’s on both sides of the family have blazing red hair. Both of my parents; brown.

I can’t tell you how many times I have proudly donned dyed red hair. I need to dye it again soon. It goes perfectly with my fair skin and freckles. Why wasn’t I born with it?? Boo Hoo!

I started out with very dark hair that gradually turned a nice red, then went lightened, then turned to its current mousy brown. I never even had to dye it.
I always wanted a baby with curly hair like I had. One of the boys had somewhat curly hair, but it grew so fast that he really needed a major haircut by the time he was three months old, and it hasn’t been curly since.

So funny!! See, I had an opposite experience. I have no red headed genes on my side (or so I thought) and I didn’t know that Hubby did. I figured all our kids would be blonde or brunette. When Red was born it kind of freaked me out. His hair was copper – like a new penny. Hubby took sweet little Red out to meet his grandparents. My parents said “Who’s baby are you holding?” and his parents said “LOOK! He’s got Great Grandma’s hair!” :)

LMAO You know I thought my son’s hair was curly when he was first born because it was all matted in blood. I guess we see what we want to see, huh? His hair did get curly later though, I am assuming that her’s stayed brown. :)

So funny! My 3rd child has red hair and it seemed like such a statistical impossibility that I was sure it was just blood, but he had to have an iv for blood sugar (I had gestational diabetes) and the only vein they could find to hold it was in his head! So they didn’t dare wash his hair for fear the needle would pull out. It took 3 days to finally get confirmation that he was indeed a red head!

I too have hoped for a red headed child. My husband has red hair…he despises it. Half my relatives have red hair. So I figured we’d have one. But both of our children have brown hair. The youngest is only 4 weeks old so I’m holding out hope. Our 2 year old has red undertones…although Josh refuses to admit this. LOL!

I could see where you would think that, I thought one of mine had curly hair at that same moment. Nope.

I wanted a red head too, for I was my mothers one “strawberry blonde” child. No red head, no boy either. That’s ok, they are kind of cute anyways!

    “Hairy hopes”–Hee Hee

    Funny!

I keep hoping my kids will get Aaron’s eye color. So far my brown has dominated!

Sorry I haven’t been around lately. But I’ve just spent a good chunk of time catching up on all the posts I missed. Great stuff, all of it. Thank goodness–I’d been going through Kimberly withdrawals.
