Me Me Me Me Me
by Kym on September 25, 2007
I can’t define myself as a Mommy Blogger. Rather, I’m a Mom who blogs. And my name? Does not start with an M. My name is Kim and I’m a person.
I’m having fun reclaiming my identity. I’ve been soaking in the loveliness of my many hobbies, and now I’ve got that tingly raisin feeling that comes from submerging oneself for an extended period of time.
It feels good.
I may have gone a wee bit too far though. We were having a correlation meeting at church Sunday afternoon and it was suggested that we have a musical number at our next conference. And I volunteered. Apparently in my journey to “find myself”, I’ve stumbled across a new facet to my personality. Let’s call her Krazy Kim.
The internal dialogue during the meeting went something like this:
Me: Hmm…musical number, I wonder if Jamie…
Krazy Kim: I’ll do it! Me! Me! Me! Pick Me!
Me: Don’t be daft, you haven’t sung anything other than You Are My Sunshine in months.
Krazy Kim: Oh please, oh please, oh please? Me me me me me me!
Me: Oh do shut up you stupid schmuck.
Krazy Kim: (wresting control in a powerful bid for freedom) “I can do a musical number, if you like.”
Me: Oh. Heck. I’m in for it now.
I’m rather grouchy at myself right now. I’m aware of how entertaining my SPD (Split Personality Disorder) moments can be, but it may be some time before I share one again. You see, I’m not talking to myself. Giving myself the cold cranium, so to speak.
Fortunately, I’ve got two cheery little girls to chat away the day with.
Hey, just because I’m not a “Mommy Blogger” doesn’t mean I can’t post cute pictures and anecdotes. Best of both worlds, gentle readers, best of both worlds.

you crack me up when you write down your internal conversations. good thing your internal wasn’t telling you to accidentally brush hands with the person next to you, thinking you were still out with orchard boy. ha. and i especially like the pic of emma’s expression. she looks like she loves who is taking the pic of her.
i am so first! i rock! he he

holy cow?!? I’m SECOND!?! That like, NEVER happens! LOL Anyways, enquiring minds want to know what you’re going to DO for your musical number. :)
Oh! And wait until you’re asked to do a musical number so many times it LOOKS like you keep volunteering yourself . . . *giggles*

I have so been there. After 9 years of no musical numbers in church, I actually volunteered to sing a duet. I couldn’t believe it! But I survived and now I am asked to play and sing more often than I would like.
Maybe that means I’m half decent??
Your oldest, Emma is it? She looks soooo much like you I think. They are both beautiful!

That SPD’s a killer, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure there’s therapy for that – and it can only take place on a hot sandy beach…
Your girls are darling!

You’re name doesn’t start with an M?? Well… I guess Kim and Melissa could be twin names… I thought perhaps Kim was your secret identity :)
When you start talking to Krazy Kim again, tell her that she will do a great job in this musical number. And tell yourself that too :)

“I’m not talking to myself.” HA! Kim, you always make me giggle. :-) I love your internal dialogue posts.

I think that’s part of the thrill of defining yourself as a person and not just a mom. That ability to jump out there and say whatever you feel like saying whenever you feel like saying it.
Now, having said that, those are two seriously cute kids. Seriously.

I do hope that the two of you, you and you, make up soon. I love reading about your conversations. Don’t hold a grudge to long, after all you are both only human.
Can’t wait to hear what you’ll be singing.

Any chance we can covince Orchard Boy to take a video?
Love you.
Guess whose coming to LV!

I’ve offered up my eldest daughter on the sacrificial altar of ward choir. They only need one to represent each family, I figured, and she sings 100 percent better than me.
My internal struggle happens every time I want to eat something naughty.

You and your split personality can sing a duet together if only you can resolve your differences before the performance. Its not like the “other” Kim won’t be at all the practices…
That said…you are brave. I am a choir and small GROUP singer only.

I read the post and am not witty enough to comment would have been my original vote!!! However, I decided to just tell you I think it’s wonderful that you volunteered. (If I ever volunteered to sing we wouldn’t be able to contain the laughter.)

OH man, I just had the same dialogue. I’ll be singing with my daughter in Sacrament meeting on the 14th. *sigh*

I wanna hear you sing!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes. I’ve had this conversation many a time with myself. Not necessarily about singing, mind you, but it seems like my Crazy side seems to idolize Martha Stewart…

I love your inner conversations! I mean, they are INNER, right? Because I thought I was the only one walking around actually carrying on conversations with myself out loud.
Be quiet, I’m trying to write here …

your SPD friend…or foe..can be pals with mine. I (nor my SP) volunteer to sing….however, she volunteers for everything else. I always have the internal dialogue…okay….I will ONLY volunteer if nobody else does….waiting….waiting…Okay, fine I’ll do it. My plate spillith over, and I volunteer to clean it up.

How about, “I’m cracking up that you put a reader’s response poll at the end of your post, so i HAVE to comment!”
Good luck with the singing. I, too, used to sing. Now, it’s lullabies and show tunes at our house. Hmm, maybe time to stop hiding that light beneath a bushel, eh?
I was surprised when I saw your blog on your cre8buzz profile. I thought I didn’t know you and then realized that I HAVE been to your blog before.
Glad to meet, or remeet you, internetically speaking.

oh nice survey. that’s cool. and good luck with your musical number!

Just kidding, I didn’t stomp off in a huff. I am just reclaiming my own identity – dare to be different and dare to antagonize :) !!
Good luck on the musical number! I wish I had a good singing voice.

Oh, I have a Crazy Elizabeth and she likes to raise her hands in church (that she doesn’t go to but went on a special occasion for her nephews dedication) when she has no idea what it means to do so. *sigh*

Matt Nathanson has been a music staple around the Infidel house for about four years now. His new CD just hit the stores last month and it’s good……really, really good. He just got married and he has this song, Wedding Dress that’s beautiful without being all slow and meandering. I really dislike slow songs but he manages to capture the sentiments while keeping it at a nice tempo.
My kids are always taking the CD out of my truck. We pull it back and forth like we’re fighting for custody of it. How rare to find music that isn’t overplayed on the radio and is adored by mom, pre-teens, and adolescents alike.

Okay, I like the song Car Crash the most right now. It’s so dysfunctional…..but I really love it.

Matt Nathanson even sounds great live with just his guitar. Here’s the acoustic of Car Crash.

Funny, because I have never considered myself a “Mommy Blogger” until I went to BlogHer. I’m with you: I am a mom who blogs. I blog more about my hubby than my kids. Does that make me a Hubby Blogger? :-)
by Amber on September 26, 2007 at 2:39 am. #
I’ve never had that dialogue because I can’t sing. But I have had similar.
Me: I should be more involved in the kids school.
Lazy Me: No, they will do just fine without me…..
:)
CUTE KIDS!

Hi Kim :)
I can readily identify with you! Losing myself in hobbies – sometimes I feel guilty about being so engrossed and content.
Volunteering in the spur of the moment then thinking what have I done!
Best of all – ‘You are my Sunshine’ is my dogs favourite, I sing it to her every morning – how sad is that!
Love your blog! :)

you’re so cute, talking to yourself…i do that too!
i know what you mean about finding your identity. i have struggled with that a lot…especially while dealing with my PPD. it’s important to find other things to do for YOU….that’s why i make cards! ;-)
