Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

by Kym on January 25, 2008

Wondering what I’ve been up to today? I was wondering the same thing as I stared in dismay at the cataclysmic mess which is my house. To distract myself from the horror, I decided to share a picture of my first attempt at making wee little icing flowers.

Becca is turning two this weekend, and I decided to take things up a notch in the birthday cake department. I’ve gone from cake iced in the pan, to cake out of the pan and then iced, to double layer with filling cake (which looked fabulous until all the icing slid off), to a butterfly cake with little icing flowers all over it.

Cake and I however? We are not friends. Bad things happen when you put me, a cake, and a spatula in the same room together. So I’m being brilliant. I’m making the round cakes which will hopefully metamorphose (ha) into a butterfly, and I’m making a backup of two dozen cupcakes. Whichever baking attempt survive will be adorned with these:
They do look vaguely like flowers, don’t they?

Anyone out there do a good hand massage? I am in sooooo much pain right now.

Very cute and yummy colors! I need to buy some pastry bags so the kids can practice their cake decorating skills.

those flowers are absolutely adorable.

I love them.

wrap your arm in a warm damp towel for a while… it isn’t a massage but it will feel great.

I am sooooo jealous! I really, really want to make pretty icing flowers. I love decorating cakes, but the flower, yeah, I’m afraid of ‘em.

Great job!! :)

Those little flowers are adorable! I’m impressed!

You should let your hand rest in a bubble bath after all that. And since your hand is in there, why not get the rest of you in there too? Relaxing is good for helping pain.

Those are so pretty! What a nice mommy you are. I’m really obsessed with Ace Of Cakes right now, it’s a show on the food network, and those look like something THEY would make. You rock.

Those are truly beautiful. I think you did a fabulous job, and hope that both the cake and cupcakes turn out for you. Your handiwork IS fabulous. You may just have found a new hobby… =)

They are so cute Kim! Wow! I had another failed attempt at cake making on Wednesday for my brother’s birthday. All of the innards came spewing out onto the plate (black forest). Sure tasted good, though. I guess that is more important than beauty! :) Good luck on yours/.

I used to be really good at hand massages in High School. I’d come over….

The flowers look great! Well worth the pain, I hope!

Come on over and I’ll massage your hand for you. ;) Those look great! If you decorate regularly then you’ll build up muscles. ;)
