Variations on a Theme

Emma was rather slow to wake up the other morning. I scooped her up into my arms and she twined her arms around my neck, mumbling rather drowsily.
Me: What’s that honey?
Emma: I neeeeed you Mommy.
Me: I need you too, Emma. I love you very much.
Emma: And I need Daddy too. And Becca. I need my Mommy, Daddy, and my Becca. And my doctors.
Me: (Bemused) Doctors?
Emma: (Fervently) Yes, my doctors. My doctor fixed my broken teeth. My Doctor Marcie.
The next day.
Emma: Mommy, I need my soother back.
Me: Sorry Emma, but the soothers were breaking your teeth so we put them in the garbage, remember?
Emma: I neeeed them! I need a break my teeth so my Marcie can fix dem.
The next day.
Emma: Mommy?
Me: Yes Emma?
Emma: My teeth is really broken. I need a see a doctor and get dem all fixed and play a game and get a toy.
Me: (Pausing to sigh) Well, your teeth aren’t broken anymore. How about we go see Doctor Marcie in awhile and get her to clean them up for you?
Emma: (Jumping up and down with a squeal, grinning and clapping her hands) Yay! We go a see a Doctor Dentist! Yay!
The next day.
Emma: Mommy? Is it awhile now? We go see Marcie today?
Me: (Sighs)
I love her to bits but she is one weird kid.

Anybody who doesn’t dislike going to the “tooth doctor” is weird to me. :)

My sister still loves the dentist. I hope my kids follow in her footsteps.
(Zack thinks it’s pretty cool too. I don’t really know why.)

Emma and my kids would get along wonderfully, I’m guessing. They could have an “I love the dentist” party!

Not weird–just persistent. That ability to focus will serve her well if it doesn’t drive you mad first.

Man, I love the dentist.
Now the doctor, he weighs me. So he can suck it. But the dentist? Hell to the yes.

Hee hee, that’s so cute. Now I need to go back and read the back story to this. I’m so glad Emma likes the dentist.

Hey, it’s better than the alternative which is screaming hysterically at the thought of a dentist, you know? Not that I would EVER scream at the thought…
