The Part Time Blogger

by Kym on March 27, 2008

So I’m thinking three days a week. Weekends off. And special arrangements to be made for holidays, birthdays, and nervous breakdowns. Also, special dispensation to be not funny, not interesting, and not entertaining whenever I so chose. Bloglines list cut down to half its former size (guilt, of course, doubled – but hopefully that will resolve itself in time).

Admittedly, this wasn’t much of a break. I fluttered around the edges, skimmed through various friends’ posts to make sure nobody died or was otherwise hugely afflicted in my absence.

Sometimes, I really worry about me. I should’ve been curled up in the fetal position, possibly giggling a lot or humming whilst doing so. I mean, what does it say that I can’t even properly commit myself to having a nervous breakdown? I started to, honestly I did, but I got sidetracked.

Yup. I’ve got issues. No question.

On the plus side, my obviously vulnerable emotional state helped me convince Neil that I need one of these:

Okay, so I bought it and then convinced him. Still, he didn’t fuss much. I’m so proud. And that up there? That’s a Franklin Covey planner, full of lovely organizational goodness.

You see, considering as how I decided to live my life instead of hiding from it and all, I thought I ought to have a way to keep track of it. And it’s pretty too! It’s got a wallet built in and a pocket big enough to shove my chaptstick into so it’s doubling as a purse.

I luuurve it. I don’t just love it, and I’m not quite to the point of adoring it, but I’m in that lovely middle ground of absolutely luuurving it.

Sometimes we find happiness in the oddest places. I’m just glad this particular form of it came in one of my favourite colours.

In other news, we’ve got the keys to the house. It’s all official. We are home owners! The lovely folks in the process of vacating the place gave us the keys two days early. They’ll be back Sunday to finish cleaning up (lovely people), but we can go peek at the place any time now.

I can’t wait for the kids to wake up.

There was a time last week when the thought that I might ever think that would have been laughable. The hysterical form of it.

Things are definitely looking up.

Okay, giggling over the “fetal position possibly giggling a lot or humming” : ) I have about that same attention span and yes, I too forget that I’m supposed to be mad, or nervous, or having a breakdown…

Love the planner. Or Luuuurve it, whatever you prefer. The color is magnifique!

Yay for keys to your new house! I hope you have an easy move and settle in quickly.

I used to post about 3 times a week when I first starting blogging, when I still had smaller kids and a part-time job.

Sounds perfect to me.

And congrats on the house. How exciting.

Yay for YOU! I’m totally laughing about the non-committal breakdown. I find myself geting sidetracked from being self-indulgently depressed sometimes. That’s actually how I met my husband. I had decided to be depressed and lonely and eat lots of ice cream and stay up all night alone watching old black and white movies and then he called on the phone and I got dressed. I’m so excited about your new house and the new planner and the new outlook!

by Cristy on March 28, 2008 at 12:42 am. #

I have one of those Frank Covey planners and they are great! I need to get a refill since my dates/calender is outdated, because they really are nifty.

But did it come with wireless internet access?

I’m back from Sydney now and back in the blog routine!!

OOOH! A new house to roam around in – have a wonderful time exploring your new home!!

Did you get the Julie Morgenstern day planner? I am drooling over it, but not convinced I am disciplined enough for it ;-)

by lapoflux on March 28, 2008 at 2:36 am. #

You’re so awesome! :D

And boy, if I had a nickel for every time I’ve thought about the ‘fetal position’ thingey….

Yay! on the keys to the house! There’s something so magical about moving into a new house. I really hope it all goes well.

And sa-weet planner, too. :) Very nice! I hope it will live up to every expectation you have of it. ;)

by Magirk on March 28, 2008 at 3:59 am. #

Yay for the new home! I am so excited for you Kim. And that planner – is fabulous. I am never able to sit still long enough to use one but perhaps that is exactly why I need one. :O)

I do so love me some Franklin Covey.

REally does sound as if you are feeling better, and trying to get things settled. :) love that you are excited for your girls to wake up. that is a really really really good sign….however, cherishing some good me time is totally normal.

Just called in from Davids – good post. Think there are a lot of bloggers in this position with life pressures. My kids are at uni; and I’m not sure I’d take on blogging on a committed (daily?) basis if they were younger!

by Julie at Virtual Voyage on March 28, 2008 at 1:20 pm. #

Just popped over from David McMahon’s place. I have to pat myself on the back because when I started blogging this january, I had read so many bloggers lamenting the fact that they were over-blogging, that it was a warning to me. I now blog about twice a week (okay, often three times) and try to limit the time I spend perusing other blogs. At least it means the kids have clean clothes when they need them!

by Expatmum on March 28, 2008 at 2:24 pm. #

The green is SO pretty.

Congrats on your house!

By the way, It’s much easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission, right?

by Bee Repartee on March 28, 2008 at 2:25 pm. #

I’m glad you are feeling better! It is hard to find moderation with the blogging thing, isn’t it? Here’s to your success!

I have a FP, too. When I quit working I got a small one for my purse. It saves my sanity.

by Blue Momma on March 28, 2008 at 2:43 pm. #

I am starting to overblog! lol There is nothing done in the house. Everyone is on take out food. What the heck.

It’s great when something that doesn’t cost the earth can give us so much pleasure isn’t it? Congrats on you r house too.

Came over from David’s blog.

by CrazyCath on March 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm. #

by Ms.L on March 28, 2008 at 3:46 pm. #

Congratulations are in order, Kimberly. Keys to a new house, a chic life organizer, an averted nervous breakdown, and Post of the Day.

For she’s a jolly good blogger.

by San on March 28, 2008 at 4:07 pm. #

Congrats on the “key owning” and the new planner organizing and the part time blogging plan :) !! You rock!

by An Ordinary Mom on March 28, 2008 at 4:54 pm. #

You know… I used to have a planner and I lived by it… perhaps I need another one. You may have inspired me – AGAIN! :)
Hurrah for the keys!! I will not be jealous as I sit and stare at my cheerio colored walls and carpet of my rental home… sigh…

by Melissa on March 28, 2008 at 5:06 pm. #

Oooh, the planner is purty.

And congratulations on the reception of keys! Very exciting stuff is happening for you.

by Luisa Perkins on March 28, 2008 at 5:43 pm. #

Congrats on the new home .. much happiness ahead I am sure .. and your planner is quite nice… and you dont have to worry about WiFi or recharging!

by Daryl E on March 28, 2008 at 5:45 pm. #

I am Franklin’s Covey’s bitch. For real. My life is inside my planner. I do not function well without it.

by That Chick Over There on March 28, 2008 at 10:43 pm. #

Happy, happy on the house! Good-bye, driveway of doom!

by Annette Lyon on March 28, 2008 at 11:50 pm. #

Hurray for the homeowners. That is really really exciting. I’m glad things are looking up and that you are acheiving some balance.

by Tonya on March 29, 2008 at 4:09 am. #

ooooo! congrats on the house. i remember the photos from so many months ago when you were looking at it. and the entire process of buying a home is so stressful, let alone moving. it is no wonder that you’ve been in the fetal position!
i’m like you–i’m always making rules for myself as i try to find balance in my life.
and i love a new planner.

by Michal on March 29, 2008 at 6:00 am. #

I popped over from David’s to read your ‘post of the day’.

Congratulations on the house and the new planner. :)

Hello I just entered before I have to leave to the airport, it’s been very nice to meet you, if you want here is the site I told you about where I type some stuff and make good money (I work from home): here it is

by barb michelen on March 29, 2008 at 10:01 pm. #

Good luck with the move! We’ll probably be doing that (again) here shortly too. It’s a daunting task- but trading the driveway of doom for the view? Lovely.

by Amber on March 30, 2008 at 12:18 am. #

your planner rocks. I love the color and everything! And Congrats on being homeowners!!!!!!

by Julie Wright on March 30, 2008 at 7:51 am. #

Congratulations on being a new homeowner!

Just caught up on your blog. I haven’t really been reading anyones much lately, just a couple here and there and now and again. It’s hard to balance life and the computer (see, I’m up at 1:30 am!), but I think that even if you only posted once or twice a week you would still make a huge impact in this world. You are so real to read and are one of my favorite hangouts when I am surfing the blogs!

Take care and good luck on the packing/moving!

by mindyluwho on March 30, 2008 at 8:30 am. #

oh YAY!!!! the house!

oh you know while it’s empty you can go run around the place like silly school children..

not…
that *i* would ever do such a thing…

no, i’m really really sophisticated.

please believe me.

dang.

See, here’s the thing about blogging. It’s hard to do when you are a perfectionist. And you ARE one, my dear… Give yourself permission to comment only once in a while. Read what you want, write what you want – when you want.

It makes it all much better.

I hope you’re feeling better. Big hugs.
