The Glory of it…
by Kym on May 13, 2008
Spring! It’s more than just a hint now. More than just a vague tickling at the edge of the senses. The tulips are sprouting, a starkly vibrant green against the dark shrivelled brown of last year’s foliage. The thick scent of impending snow has been whisked away by a west wind, and the thick carpet of frost free grass is dappled with sunshine.
Bliss.
I’m not an outdoor person by nature. And I really hate admitting that. I’d much prefer to be the earthy type. At one with the earth and the trees and whatnot. Really though? I hate bugs and I sunburn after 37.2 seconds exposure to the sun. Yep. The outdoors and me, we are not close friends.
Today though. Oh today. The beauty of this place. The joyful sounds of my darling girls romping around in the beautiful wilderness of our yard. Shrieks of laughter amid the sunshine.
In such moments I forget that I am in any way troubled. I forget about the tough days when I feel worthless and weary. I forget about past regrets and that ever present wanderlust that sometimes shakes me from sleep.
I can focus only on that single moment in time where I am completely happy. Completely fulfilled. A short moment. Fleeting. But sweet and poignant nonetheless.

There is something amazing about how spring lifts your spirits and weight off your shoulders.
Not that I would know. It’s 30 degrees and snowing in Colorado today…..

So too in our lives, we await the spring that ALWAYS follows winter . . . *HUGS* to you.

I love the idea of being outdoors… it’s the actual act of being outdoors that I have to get used too hahaha! There is something about spring though that makes one smile.
xo to you Kimmy – (can I still call you that or is that something one outgrows? It seems to roll off my tongue as I write – am I even making sense? In my own little world, the people here understand me, so we’ll go with it!)
Love ya!

Spring is such an awakening, isn’t it? It makes the bad stuff in life feel a little less overwhelming. I went to a greenhouse yesterday and just basking in the warm atmosphere where life is all around was such a pleasant feeling on a rainy, cold day! It’s so uplifting to the senses. Beautiful post, my dear!

I miss spring… we don’t really get it here. There’s something amazing about everything coming back to life… and feeling that sense yourself!

Isn’t it amazing how the simplicity of a beautiful spring day can make all our troubles go away … at least temporarily?!? Because of this I have been trying to take advantage of our occasional sun breaks to let Cory run his little heart out while playing in the fields.

You almost make me want to go outside and run around.
Almost.

Ahh. Sunshine. It can heal even the deepest wounds and illness. It can tempt wanderlust in even the most flora-shy amongst us. It lures us into it’s warm embrace…
I can’t wait until the sun shines here, again.
BTW – great job on the Battle of the Bulge! I bet you look great!!!

I love this spring feeling too. I also burn at the hint of sunshine, but the girls have been in the paddling pool and on the trampoline and gone to sleep drowsy and happy and I love that. (Except the last two nights with the sickness. Boo.)

Love the post. I’m feeling that way too. In fact, in your honor, I might just go work outside today and see if I can burn some more. :)

there’s no hint about it! it is smacking us in the face with the heat that would melt the polar caps.
i’m only slightly outdoorsy, in that you can’t play golf indoors. well, you could, but it gets really messy. and dangerous.
i love that you are focusing on the happy. my favorite kind of kim is a happy kim. i like all the kinds, i’m just saying happy kim is my favorite. it’s the one i’d have a figurine of on my mantle. the blogger fairy is the happy kim one. just so you know. :)

sweet and poignant post.. I had to copy that word, poignant, and I still spelled it wrong, both times…

Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. This was beautiful. Okay, maybe there really is something in your water, but in a good way. The prose is flowing through you Kim. The imagery in this post was gorgeous and I completely related to the part where you said, “I forget about the tough days when I feel worthless and weary.” The weather has the exact same effect on me.
Great post, again.
Oh… and I’m slow to reply, but of course you can “steal” my Letter to Csilla idea. There’s nothing to “steal”, but if you thinking you need permission, you have it. (Of course now you’re going to go write a letter that puts mine to shame oh brilliant you, but I’ll get over it.) Hugs.

Ooh! Can I come visit? It’s nearing 90′s out here! Spring is long gone. . . And I’m lamenting.
I’m grateful for the possibility of camping in the snow in a week and a half, then it’s back to the heat for the long-haul summer (aka 5 months).
I’m also grateful for this blog. I always love reading what you have to write!
Love the new background, btw!

Hi! Google Reader told me to come visit. (or rather, suggested…I just followed the link) The weather there sounds absolutely lovely, I always love when the weather turns warm and you can play outside. (though too often you’ll find me inside) I’m looking forward to reading more!
