Bloggomorphosis

by Kym on June 26, 2008

My blogoversary is coming up. As of July 11th, I’ll have been blogging for two years. Two. Years. It’s a bit staggering when I come to think of it. I found myself scrolling through my posts the other days, skimming the titles of the four hundred and sixty odd (some very odd!) posts I’ve written over the last two years.

Me and this blog? We’ve been through a lot together. Blogging has, in many ways, helped to shape who I am and who I have the potential to become. It has gifted me with friends. Some who will come and go. Some who will be friends for life.

I was talking to my mum on the phone this morning, bubbling over with excitement because I’ve finally summoned up the courage to tackle the rewrites on my first novel. I told her that I’d even gone so far as to think about manuscript formatting and submission guidelines. It was a bit of a shock to realize that I actually have the confidence to consider submitting a manuscript to a publisher (someday).

Me! The former shy girl. The girl who used to wallow in misery and discontent on a daily basis. Who had no hopes, goals, or ambitions. Who tucked her dreams away into disused corners, trying to pretend they’d never happened, because even dreaming requires courage.

I don’t know what happened to that girl, but I’ll be happy to be fully rid of her (someday).

I’m full of wonder and gratitude over a metamorphosis that has happened so gradually as to leave me stunned and awestruck as I take in the full import of it. It’s impossible to talk about such things without sounding a bit corny, I know, but I get so excited when I catch a glimpse of my potential. I can’t wait to achieve it.

Of course, that’ll have to wait a few days as we’re going away for a long weekend visit down south. Anyone in the Vancouver, BC area who’d like to meet up on Monday (or Tuesday on our way out of town), feel free to drop me an email. Also, Neil and I will be in Seattle this Saturday for a short visit. We’ll be at the LDS Temple from approximately 9am-11am, then we’ll grab some lunch somewhere (want to join us?) and hit the outlet stores in North Bend till about 2pm or so. We’re spending the rest of the day with a dear friend of mine before heading back to Vancouver. Can’t wait! As for the rest of you, I’ll “see” you next week!

Love the transformation. It is so awesome. I am always the biggest cheerleaders of those who feel or have felt, like the underdogs. You go girl.

Carolyn maybe would meet you in Van? I wish I could go to the temple that day in Seattle. That use to be the one we went too.

Have fun and just keep on living the dream out..

I can’t even remember how long I’ve been blogging. It’s been that long. Let’s see, yeah, it was back in ’08. May, I think it was.

Ahhh, the passage of time….

That’s a pretty great transformation. That’s the kind of thing people write inspiring memoires about, or self-help books. Maybe that can be your next writing project after you’ve made your million or so on your current novel!

I’m absolutely delighted to see the sentence:

“I’ve finally summoned up the courage to tackle the rewrites on my first novel.”

That’s wonderful, Kimberly, and I’d love to help in any way.

I love moments like that, when you see potential, or see something achievable that earlier was so out of your reach you couldn’t imagine it. It makes all the effort and time worth it.

And Happy Blogoversary on the 11th if I am not around to comment on that particular day :) !!
