Quirkiness Personified

by Kym on June 27, 2008

So I was mulling over my last post when it hit me. Bloggoversary on July 11th. Current total post count? Four Hundred and Sixty-Six. If you’re a regular reader and have therefore been afflicted with multiple insights into the twisted mass that resides in my cranium, you can probably guess what I’m going to do.

Yup. Bye-bye part time blogging. Hello blogging multiple times a day so that my Bloggoversary and 500th post happen simultaneously. The synchronicity of that would simply delight my chaotic yet order craving self. Yes, I suppose you could call it cheating, but sadly, I’m not above that.

Problem is, of course, that I’m crazy fond of comments. I love the validation that comes from people taking the time to give me feedback on something I’ve overcome my many neuroses in order to post to the world at large. It. Feels. Goooood.

It’s a really fabulous way to get to know some really fabulous people as well.

Anyway, if I’m going to post several times a day, I can’t really expect you all to take the time to comment several times a day. Given my tendency towards egomania, I just want you to know I’ll be okay with this. Really.

Well…probably.

And since I’ve just displayed my quirkiness in a very obvious way, I figure my first “bonus post” should be a meme that the lovely Belle tagged me for.

Six Quirks

1) I have never once in the whole entirety of my life made a shopping list, taken it shopping with me, and remembered to look at it. I am not exaggerating. Not even once.

2) I overheat easily. My mum says it’s on account of family’s deep veins. When she was at school she tried to donate blood to earn spending money. The nurses? Told her to never come back. The nurses at our local hospital? Scowl when they see me coming. Again. Not exaggerating.

3) I never remember to mail things. I have a box of packages “To Be Mailed” sitting in our office closet and I never remember about it. I have packages that have been in there for a year and a half or more (umm…sorry Kate, Lucy, Heffalump, et al…).

4) I love music. It makes me happy. Do I ever remember to turn the CD player on? Nope!

5) I only own about four pairs of shoes. I sometimes feel like I’m not “woman enough” because of this. Really it’s mostly just that I have a high arch and most female footwear equates to torture for me. Also, shoes just aren’t a priority when your hubby is in grad school. Now that we’re settled I may have to rethink the shoe situation. Hmmm….to think up a sixth quirk or to go online shoe shopping?

6) I haven’t scrubbed my floor in I’m ashamed to admit how long but my house? Tidy! Everything tucked away into its place. Except the office. Oh, and the side entrance is stacked full of junk. Oh right, and under the kitchen sink is a bit murky too, now I come to think of it. Yeah…I like to hide my messes. When unexpected guests show up? I’ll sometimes dash off and shove things wherever they’ll fit to tidy the place up quickly.

Bit barmy, really. But that’s me!

You are so funny. Just don’t be like my friend who hid things in her oven when unexpected company came, and then she ended up baking some plastic and some clothing items. Yummo. =)

I sent you an email, just so you know, because I’m sincerely hoping I get to actually glimpse your wonderfulness in person this coming holiday weekend. But if not, that’s okay too. We’ll get together again one of these days.

p.s. I was going to stick this in an email but forgot…..you are the best friend a girl could have who is trying to figure out where in BC to live and where in the world to find a house that doesn’t cost a fortune. So no worries about crossing any boundaries, okay? It’s this other couple that has all sorts of advice for us on where to live, why we need to live by them in the gloomiest town in BC, how many children we should have, what we should eat, where we should shop, where we should go to church, how we should plan to discipline/feed/clothe/school future children, etc. That drives me nuts. But you are not like that. You are wonderfully helpful and kind.

Gotta go now. I’m cooking dinner for the first time in 2.5 months.

I totally understand where you’re coming from on the comment thing . . . probably why I haven’t posted on my blog since 3 June . . . waiting for SOMEONE/ANYONE! to comment . . . lol
Anyways, you’ll have to tell me if you find some good shoe deals . . . I hate high arches . . .
Oh! And I should probably put this on your previous post, but I’ll just say it now . . . if you’re going to be at the temple on Saturday, you need to go down to the cafeteria and say hello to my little sister Kellie who’s one of the cashiers . . . :)

Hey, if you’re going for 500 posts, I’m going for at least that many comments, minus four hundred and some.

But really, it’s almost like a challenge you’ve proposed. Now I’ve got to comment on every post!

@Kate: I read your front-page post, but it would be easier to leave a comment if I didn’t have to log in first. What’s the username and password? Just kidding.

Get to blogging girl. I can’t wait to read all about it.

by Tonya on June 27, 2008 at 3:31 am. #

You are ambitious. I look forward to reading all your forthcoming posts.

And I haven’t scrubbed my floor in eons either!

by An Ordinary Mom on June 27, 2008 at 4:04 am. #

oh wow, 500 posts?!?! I bow to your superiority and I am so not worthy :) Oh but I do have ridiculously high arches too. That coupled with the being 6 foot kinda makes shoes less than a priority for me too. I don’t scrub the floor either.

by belle on June 27, 2008 at 7:02 am. #

If the house is a mess when someone is planning to drop by, I just throw everything into our bedroom. :)

by Summer on June 27, 2008 at 11:31 am. #

We are suppose to scrub floors? I didn’t know that.

You are so funny. Can’t wait to see what is next. Have a great weekend.

I’m having fun on the shoe train over here…you should jump on and give it a try. ;)

by Elaine on June 27, 2008 at 1:37 pm. #

I do the same thing with music. I love to have it playing all the time. We tend to have the TV off more easily and it makes my happy. I usually forget, but right now, I can’t find the cord to it and I need to search boxes!!

Have fun blogging extra!

It was #5 that caught my attention…I don’t think that any woman in my life owns less than 30 pairs of shoes (shoes for every occasion and every possible combination of clothing). And because of this, I just assumed that all women owned buckets of shoes. I thought of shoes as a must-own accessory…a way for all women to feel more sensual and sophisticated. I am most pleased to hear that not all women are under this shoe spell…although, admittedly, I do have a bit of a shoe fetish when it comes to women…but that’s neither here nor there. I’ve already said too much.

by J. Anthony Holloway on June 27, 2008 at 2:45 pm. #

dude, it’s so NOT cheating. It’s catching up.

by the MomBabe on June 27, 2008 at 2:53 pm. #

The vein thing? Me, too. Once, when I needed surgery, they had to use an infant catheter to inject stuff to knock me out so they could then find a real vein and insert and adult sized catheter. Good news is, apparently as I age those veins are coming closer to the surface so it’s getting easier.

I’d never connected that with the overheating, which I also do.

by Karlene on June 27, 2008 at 3:35 pm. #

I have also never made a list. If I did I would probably lose it or forget it.

I don’t own many pairs of shoes either. I have long, skinny, quite flat feet. Makes shoe shopping a nightmare. But I really should get some new shoes, the ones I have worn every day for 18 months have holes in them.

Funny girl. Good luck on your 500 marker!

by Tracey on June 27, 2008 at 4:38 pm. #

I didn’t see that coming, even when you spelled that out for me. My thinking was: “466 posts? So what … she’s trying for 475 by July 11?? Weird.” (Maybe it’s ’cause I’ve been blogging for almost a whole extra year and am only on … just a sec; lemme check … post 407. Oh, that’s not as bad as I thought. But still. I have never been a once-a-day poster.)

Looks like I am gonna have a LOT of catching up to do (since there will be at least a week there that I’m gonna be offline)!

by Beth on June 27, 2008 at 4:39 pm. #

Just when you thought you were overcoming your computer addiction.

Nevertheless, I’ll read everyone of them!:)

by Dedee on June 27, 2008 at 4:42 pm. #

Oh man, I break out in hysteria if I find myself at a store without my shopping list. And I begin to weep if, when I call home to have Hubby read off the list for me, Hubby can’t find the list for me.

That was a fun list of quirkiness. :)

by Magirk on June 27, 2008 at 4:53 pm. #

Hee hee, 2,3 and 4 are completely me. And go with the posts, yo can do to. :D

by Jo Beaufoix on June 27, 2008 at 8:10 pm. #

Courtenay told me to check out your blog. You’re hilarious. I do thing you’ve earned a spot on my blogroll. Most definitely!

by pluckymama on June 27, 2008 at 9:53 pm. #

Silly girl! Forced synchronicity? What next?!? I love it. Can’t wait to read all 44? of them.

Fun list –
I have the CURSE OF THE DEEP VEINS as well. Just don’t let them ever do an ARTERY PUNCTURE — that HURT for a WEEK! (#3 and #4 are totally me, too! My husband WISHES I were #5 too, I’m sure!)

You’re a kick!

by charrette on June 27, 2008 at 10:59 pm. #

We have been blogging about the same amount of time. Guess who has more posts?

hint: it isn’t me!

by Dapoppins on June 27, 2008 at 11:13 pm. #

You can do it!

by That Chick Over There on June 28, 2008 at 12:01 am. #

Yes, you must go shoe shopping. Promise it will be done! ;)

by Tristi Pinkston on June 28, 2008 at 12:49 am. #

oh honey, don’t give in to the shoes. i have four pairs that i wear: flip-flops (i call ‘em slippers) in the summer, boots in the winter, black sandals to church, running shoes. any more than that and i’d have to make decisions on what looks better and frankly, i don’t have enough energy for that. :)

by Nic on June 28, 2008 at 1:03 am. #

My two year blogaversary is in July as well, and I am almost to three hundred posts! If I slow down and only blog here and there I can make them happen at the same time!
(My goal is easier to accomplish than yours is!)
Hey…at least you manage to package things up to mail…that is farther than I manage to get with it.
I’m so excited to find someone else that has fewer than ten pairs of shoes! Yay!

by Heffalump on June 28, 2008 at 5:39 am. #

I’m glad you’ll be posting more, I love to read what you write! I’ve been blogging since 7-06 … crazy to think I have that much to say! ;)

by Shanna on June 28, 2008 at 12:42 pm. #

Congratulations on your upcoming blogaversary! I look forward to many more posts to come.
(Most of them within the next 2 weeks. ;0)

by JustRandi on June 28, 2008 at 5:50 pm. #

1) is so funny, considering you are now listing things.

2) i read that initially as “i overEAT easily” and i was going to say “well, we all do, honey, that’s not really a quirk. try again.” turns out i’m a dummy.

3) oh yeah. i think i have one for *you* sitting around here somewhere.

4) i don’t understand this one. something about a cd player? i just don’t understand what’s happening.

5) i also don’t understand this one. surely you mean you only own four pairs of blue shoes, four pairs of brown shoes, four pairs of pumps and four pairs of flats, alongside your four pairs of sneakers. that’s way too many shoes. i only really have three sets of each. except pumps. really. me in pumps. then you know the world is coming to an end. ..

6) oh and me too, except for the tidy part.

how very very alike we are. apart from these items.

by holly on June 28, 2008 at 10:48 pm. #

I am stunned that you’ll have posted 500 times in 2 years. I wish I could think of so much to say! What an accomplishment, and it’s still never boring!

by Jenna Consolo on June 29, 2008 at 2:17 am. #

I love love love that you are posting more so that you can hit 500 on your 2 year mark. I will not be disclosing the number of posts within my blog… it’s sad.

by Melissa on June 30, 2008 at 7:16 pm. #

Yay for more posts!! And seriously, you are not alone in the shoe thing. I’d much rather be barefoot…shoes are evil.
