A Quick Shift
by Kym on September 23, 2008
So I just wrote a worryingly whiny post about how tired I am. And then I hit a button I apparently ought not to have and the post disappeared before my eyes. I`ve decided not to be upset over this. Instead, I have a theory that perhaps this was the direct intervention of God on behalf of one, some, or all of my readers.
Perhaps my self-pity would have pushed someone over the edge, causing them to wallow in despair, consume vast quantities of chocolate, gain ten pounds in a day, and in the end hate me for the rest of their embittered life.
Because I`m mighty and powerful and influential like that. Yep.
So…hmm…happy stuff. In the midst of the near-to-tears exhaustion level there`s definitely some happy stuff.
1) I did not have cake for breakfast, lunch, snacktime, nor even at any time at all today. And the leftover cream cheese frosting that I shot straight into my mouth from the icing bag…well, I spat it right out into the sink, mentally shouting at myself that it wasn`t worth it.
2) I exercised today.
3) The kids didn`t destroy the house near as thoroughly as they could have considering my semi-vegetative state.
4) I got a phone call saying there`s a UPS parcel in town waiting for me to pick up. As an official mail glutton this perked up my day considerably.
5) I made the decision to get up off my tired, lazy butt and actually accomplish something today. Half the battle, people, half the battle.
There. That`s way more interesting to read about than the exhaustion, headache, cranky kids, and the fact that my keyboard has decided not to let me use question marks or quote marks or proper apostrophes either. Oh, and the woodpecker pecking at the side of the house right next to the computer.
Yeah. Sigh.

Having just seen “Pollyanna” for the first time last night (yay for the library!), I like your post. Way to look on the bright side! And I hope you have a better, less-exhausted day tomorrow.

I don’t think I could take a woodpecker, just now.
Feel better, okay?
(Sorry I used a question mark. I’m not trying to rub it in.)

It could be worse…. there could be an elephant in the room :)

Okay… when I saw the title of your blog post in my Google Reader I thought you had taken up cussing.
Apparently you aren’t the only one who needs more sleep!

*HUGS* There is always a silver lining to any cloud . . . sometimes they are harder to see . . . but thank you for the reminder that they are there and that I must constantly look for them! :)

I love that the universe intervened on your attempted rant. Sometimes it’s good to let it out, but other times it’s best to let the annoyances evaporate into thin air. I spend way too much time complaining. Perhaps my computer should intervene on me once in a while. All that to say… I’m glad to hear the happy stuff today. You rock.
Congrats to you on exercising. You’ve got me beat by a long shot. I never seem to get to it. No energy. And exercising is so, well, boring. Yuck. Even more Kudos to you for doing it. I think you deserve ten extra pats on the back.
And for the record, I’m a mail glutton too. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE getting mail (except for the bills, but I’ve actually switched to e-bills so the bills stop ruining my enjoyment of getting mail! Aren’t I smart?)
And I feel your pain on the keyboard thing. The Hungarian keyboards with everything in the “wrong” place (wrong to me anyway) almost drove me nuts. Hang in there. Or, throw your keyboard at the woodpecker and kill two birds with one stone, er, keyboard.
Peace out.

I’m proud of you for spitting out the frosting. It’s not worth it, but you are. Huzzah!
by Melanie J on September 23, 2008 at 4:28 pm. #
I don’t think I could have cake sitting there and NOT eat it!!
by tracey on September 23, 2008 at 4:47 pm. #
Yeah, that whole frosting-spitting is worthy of some kind of a medal. Maybe that’s what’s in the UPS box – a “you’re awesome for spitting out the frosting” medal? You totally deserve it:)

I know this is in reference to a post quite a ways down but I just realized I have you to blame for my current 12-cookies-in-the-plastic-slot-sugar-cookies with heavy frosting obsession. Oh my! I thought I was over it but then I read your post and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. And today I gave in. Can you say sick? Sooooooo sick . . .

#5 is at least 79% of the battle. for real.

Yea, for the day! I didn’t exercise. :( My Wii will have something smart to say about that tomorrow.
And my computer?Half the time it won’t do capital I’s. (Of course, since I’m telling you about it, it’s working just fine right now…)

hooray for mail! yay! how great that a package/letter/something-addressed-to-you-that-isn’t-a-bill-or-credit-card-offer can make your whole day seem better.
i just love mail.
by cornnut32 on September 23, 2008 at 7:12 pm. #
I have to say you are so much a better person than I am. I opened the twinkie package and thought about the jeans I wish I fit in. I thought the words, “It is so not worth . . . so not worth it,” and then I prompty ate the twinkies without a second thought. You are amazing!
by julie wright on September 23, 2008 at 7:31 pm. #
Watch out for those packages in the mail. I got one recently that turned out to be samples of various feminine hygiene items. All my hopes for something exciting in the mail were dashed.
by Heffalump on September 23, 2008 at 8:46 pm. #
Yippee for good mail. I’ve written posts like that and then hit delete. Sometimes it’s good to just get it all out. It’s great that you focused on the positives when you really weren’t feeling it.
by Tonya on September 23, 2008 at 9:05 pm. #
Way to think positive! And of course exercise is supposed to be the answer for fatigue, or something. I expect your tiredness will be gone by tomorrow! (if only — I really do hope so!)
I love how you were still able to sqeeze in a tiny bit of the negative in that last paragraph as it gives us an idea of just what it took to focus on the positive! Way to go! (Headaches always make everything twice as bad. Hopefully yours went away quick!)
by Lisa on September 23, 2008 at 10:03 pm. #
I feel like I’ve become a friend by “visiting” your blog so much. In fact, I suspect I “visit” you more often in 1 week than I see my sisters, isn’t that weird? For that reason, I feel like you can talk about the negative as well as the positive to me. So anytime you want to vent exclude me form the list of people that will end up hating you. But having said that, I’m glad you decided to list the positive things of the day because it sounds like that was more helpful to you.

Woo hoo for the good stuff!!
by Tirzah on September 24, 2008 at 6:49 am. #
I’m still super impressed by you spitting out that frosting! Way to go Kim!!!!!
Love to you and here’s hoping today is better than yesterday was!
by Eowyn on September 24, 2008 at 8:13 am. #
Sorry to hear you’re having one of “those” days. They suck. Way to go with the cakelessness, though! If I make it to noon without any chocolate, I consider myself a super hero. :)
by Becky on September 24, 2008 at 8:59 am. #
Umm… why spit it out?! I’d just put it on graham crackers… :)
But I’m completely with you on the “sometimes gotta rant, but don’t want anyone else reading it”, or “glad no one else read it, later” train.
by Sarah on September 24, 2008 at 9:18 am. #
You sound like a girl that needs a hug. (((HUGS))) I’m sorry you are so tired – I’ve done that whole blurry eyed exhaustion thing a lot lately and it’s no fun. But on the bright side – you worked out today! Go you!!!
by Deconstructing Jen on September 24, 2008 at 11:30 am. #
I am exhausted and I want pity. Dang you are good.
by Jan on September 24, 2008 at 12:29 pm. #
I am incredibly envious of #4.
However, UPS will be calling me soon to let me know of a parcel. Unfortunately it will mean my husband’s xbox 360 is now fixed and ready for it’s typical 1-6hours of (straight) use…per day.
I secretly hope they don’t call.
by Crystal on September 24, 2008 at 3:27 pm. #
i LOVE that you spat today.
and then blogged about the spitting.
YAY FOR SPITTING!
by hollydolly on September 24, 2008 at 3:52 pm. #
Hee hee, just lauging at Holls comment. Don’t you just hate when posts disappear? I’m so annoyed for you. But yay for the exercise, the none cake or cream cheese eating and the tidy kids. Fabulous. x
by Jo Beaufoix on September 25, 2008 at 2:24 am. #
You have some mighty fun self control when it comes to ridding yourself of fabulous frosting!
Woodpeckers and me don’t mix very well!
by An Ordinary Mom on September 25, 2008 at 12:44 pm. #
Good job spitting it out! You’re right though, half the battle is to just get up and start doing things.
by Jaina on September 25, 2008 at 3:28 pm. #
Somehow I’ve managed to miss 3 posts! What is WRONG with me ;)
So glad you accomplished much today – and that you were blessed by the UPS fairy ;) I love him too!
