Yummy
by Kym on September 17, 2008
Yes, we’re continuing with the sugar theme, I’m afraid. Special of the day? Spice cake with caramel frosting. Mmm…many thanks to Neil for having a birthday and for being a brown sugar addict, as it gave me an excuse to indulge.
I confess with pride that I only ate one tablespoon of frosting that was not attached to a piece of cake. And that was immediately following a bout of random shrieking on the part of my beautiful but exasperating little girls this afternoon. Oh how I wish stress and sugar cancelled each other out since so often the one precedes the other. Then again I suppose most of us would be paper thin if that were the case. Best not to defy the laws of physics if you can possibly help it, eh?
And now for a link that may cause you to alternately curse and adore me: Caramel Frosting
So. Easy. You may notice that I don’t often post recipes. This is because while I usually produce edible foodstuffs, I have a knack for misunderstanding recipes and simple culinary processes. And I just can’t bring myself to share a recipe that took me half a dozen tries before I got it right. This one however was a first timer, and every subsequent attempt has gone oh so smoothly.
Bon appetit!
Keeping again with the cuisine theme, you may have noticed a wee addition to my new sidebar. TasteBook has a fabulous contest going on and since I think their service is one of the coolest things going (and is going to help me out hugely with Christmas shopping this year), I’m giving them a bit of a plug. I suggest peeking on over and giving them a try.
Now please stop wincing. I’m not going to become a Give-away-a-day sort of site, it’s just that giving unsolicited advice is so much fun!
Speaking of Give Aways though, check in Friday for something truly lovely. I got a free giftie in the mail last week from Erin at The Vintage Pearl. Erin is a sweetheart and her products are simply enchanting. To help get the word out I’ll be shining the ole spotlight on her this weekend and giving away one of her beautiful necklaces.
Don’t wrinkle your nose in disgust, boys. Christmas is only a few months away.
Ooo, look! I wrote a whole post without writing anything even remotely meaningful! I’m completely addlepated by lack of sleep and a rapidly wearing off sugar high, so deep profundity will have to wait till the morrow.
I will say this though, for the first time in the entirety of our marriage Neil’s birthday wasn’t an anti-climactic event. I went all out. Long backrub first thing this morning, hot breakfast, house scoured clean and balloons everywhere, a huge crowd over for cake and ice cream, his favourite cake&frosting combo, some chores he’s been putting off doing done for him, the garbage taken out, and last but not least, not having to deal with any diapers tonight. Oh, and some supremely lovely gifts courtesy of Amazon.ca.
I am absolutely weary now. My legs are screaming in protest and I literally started to nod off a few minutes ago and it’s not even 10pm yet. Still, two hours of birthday left. I wonder what more I can do before I crawl into bed.
It feels good to get outside of my own head every once in awhile. My the air is fresh out here.

Ah, Stress and sugar…
Someone should write a song about that.
Sounds like you really knocked yourself out for Neil’s birthday. Lucky him! I need to take lessons! What will we do if you become any more perfect?
And I can’t believe you only ate a tablespoon of frosting that wasn’t attached to cake…I typically eat half the bowl! (I guess that might explain why you’re losing weight and I’m…not.) :)
Oh, but sign me up for the necklace as my consolation prize. I think I need it! :)

Happy Birthday husband! You’re lovely I’m sure. And your wife is lovely and very patient with me. Especially when I copy her. Because next I’m going to copy her and go to wordpress cause it’s way cool.
Oh, and Kimberly – that bonnie up there that commented from the Manifesto. A DELIGHT. She just started herself a blog and she’s just…great. I know. I know. NOT another blog to read, but I have to say it’s another good one. :)

You. Crack me up! Glad things went well yesterday and just stay away from that cake today, ok?
(Course, I won’t say anything about the chocolate chip shortbread cookies I just bought at the bakery. . .)

Oooh….caramel frosting? I don’t believe I have ever had caramel flavored frosting…I’ll definitely have to try it. :) Happy Birthday to your hubby!

Oh my good golly. Must.try.caramel.frosting. The next birthday in our house is my son’s and he doesn’t care for caramel. So maybe that’s a good thing.
I love going out all out for birthdays. It’s one of my favorite thing to do. My elder stateman of a husband will be forty this spring and I’m already racking my brains about how to do it up right!

Sugar and stress … yeah, working on that one. I do feel like I am getting a wee better at it, at least for the last couple of weeks I have. I hope it lasts.
So tell me about TasteBook funding your Christmas …

Um…I just logged on again to download that caramel frosting recipe. After my car failed its safety inspection and cost a boatload of money in repairs, I decided I need chocolate. And caramel. Together. Now.
Clearly I don’t have your will power…I doubt I’ll be spitting it out! I just hope I don’t eat the entire bowl!
