More Frivilousness

by Kym on October 7, 2008

The comment notification thingummy is working! Many thanks to Mombabe and Jen for your help. And now, I shall do the happy dance of joy and try to forget the slight downer that I’ve gone and told you all it’s working now, so I’ve no excuse for slackness in the comment responding area.

Self-destructive behaviour is my specialty, I think.

I’ve had my filling done and yes, it’s my first filling ever. I usually attribute it to the fact that my parents overdosed me on fluoride drops when I was a baby, but in all honesty it’s due to the fact that I can’t stand that fuzzy feeling on my teeth after not brushing for several hours. I even carry a toothbrush and small tube of toothpaste in my purse if I know I’m going to be out for quite awhile.

Another weird Kim Factoid? I have a highly sensitive gag reflex so attempts at using a home tooth whitening system have usually had disastrous (and messy) results. Nonetheless! The dentist asked if I bleached my teeth and was surprised when I said no. While my love of sweets may have finally caught up with me dental health wise, at least my abstaining from pop, coffee, and cigarettes has paid off.

The filling didn’t hurt a bit, but for some odd reason the left side of my face, left side of my lips, and the inside of my nose are all numb. The inside. Of my nose. That isn’t a sensation I’ll attempt to describe but still. Oi.

Anyway, I’ll leave it at that since I’ve posted twice today (something I generally avoid), and have yet to write anything remotely meaningful. I half wish I’d panicked and needed gas so I could blame it on that. Alas, I’m in my right mind (good thing as the left side of my head is numb) and have no excuse other than the giddiness that comes with having had my doom and gloom expectations pleasantly proven ridiculous.

I’m also anticipating a lower calorie count than usual today as the freezing is already wearing off and my tooth is throbbing. Losing poundage through pain isn’t my preferred method, of couse, but it sure beats bouncing about and sweating like mad.

Right. I was meant to be stopping.

Don’t you hate when you can’t figure out how to end properly? You know you ought to but you just can’t find the right words/tone?

Finis.

I know that asleep feeling all too well, I hate getting numbed for that stuff because I always stay numb for HOURS longer than you’re supposed to. Even the time the dentist only used half the normal dose I was STILL numb for hours. If I get the choice I go for no Novocaine…my mouth is the highest point of pain tolerance in my body. (yeah, I’m bizarre..just don’t kick me anywhere, I’ll be a big baby about it)

Ooo, I have an appointment to have tooth checked tomorrow that has been bothering me for about 2 weeks. I hope it goes as well as yours! Who in there right mind would want to be a dentist? I’m FREAK out every time I walk in that office – it is not a pleasant experience. I wouldn’t want my patients feeling that way about me for an entire career! Anyways…I had my yearly check up the end of August, so I’m sure it’s just a filling that has fallen out…it better not be a cavity that they missed! Either way, it’s probably going to require a shot….eeeek! I hate shots! I went through labor with both of children o-natural because of my fear of needles – with Ashlyn I didn’t even have an I.V., only because there wasn’t time….

I’m jealous of your only one cavity. Once I went to the dentist, and the dental hygienist couldn’t get over how well brushed and flossed my teeth were; she kept on complimenting me on it. Then the dentist waltzed in and proclaimed, “Four Cavities!” At that moment I quite. No, not brushing teeth, but quit feeling like it does anything. Avram’s like you, though.

My kids were horrified that their little nephew got his first cavity this week.

I was lucky; I didn’t have any until my 30s, and still pretty lucky there.

My poor sister – who brushes and is a dentist’s dream patient – gets them really easy.

(I told her to lay off the soda because it is evil for the teeth…)

Feel better.

Just ignore my comment on your last post :) !! That’s what happens when I don’t visit your blog daily and hourly :) !!

I have only had one filling my entire life, too. Mind came on after my pregnancy with Keri. Too much morning sickness!

My poor husband on the other hand flosses daily and brushes like crazy and he already has 5 crowns! Yikes! I sure hope our kids get my genes.

Oh how I love you. Such a hoot!
If you had slacked off on daily dental care you would be thinking this numbness after the dentist was totally normal. I don’t know if that made sense. Too tired. Must go before making a fool of myself further…

You know what though? Your “most recent post” thingy keeps saying my most recent post was one from about a week ago. Oh well…

Someone commented on the whiteness of my teeth last weekend too (not a dentist though, that would be ultimate). I didn’t know what to say… I don’t smoke anyhow, so I guess that’s why. That and children’s toothpaste maybe :D

So glad it didn’t hurt! And I detest being numb. I mean, the alternative is definitely worse, but numbness kind of freaks me out.

I sure wish I could say that I’d just had one filling in my whole life. I was cursed with bad teeth. Growing up in my house, dental care was not high on the totem pole. Oh well, thank goodness they can fix them right?

I love that you’re so confused about the numbness! You’re such a dental greenie!

And I have that can’t figure out how to end it thing with nearly every post. Not like I have all this fancy writing to bring to a satisfying conclusion or anything, but I don’t want to just write, “So, yeah….Bye!” at the end of each post!

Is your tooth finally finished throbbing? I hope you are feeling better! And I loved the ending of this post, by the way.

My children are amazed at Mommy’s “silver” teeth. I ate a lot of candy in elementary school. It’s been years, but the damage is still there. They think my fillings are cool. I tell them they’re earned from lots of vegetables.
