I’m extraordinarly blessed that so many of my readers take the time to validate my time here and leave lovely encouraging comments. They don’t just validate though. They uplift, inspire, encourage, and sometimes bring me to the point of tears because of how heart warming you all are. You = Wonderful. Me = Sappy. Picture me here all red nosed clutching a mangled kleenex box and you won’t be far off.
For those who are curious, I only yelled once today and I think that Emma strangling her little sister with a lei from her dress up box can be considered reasonable cause. That aside though, I feel so much calmer now. Not healed entirely. Still trying to sort myself out as always, but…better somehow. Just better. There’s something cathartic about putting angst into words.
However, when you’re blessed to know as many fabulously funny women as I do, melancholy, guilt, and intense seriousness can’t linger for long. You see, I had a quirky little email conversation with the illustrious MomBabe this evening which set me to giggling. And groaning. You see, I’d pointed out to her how small the town we’ve settled in is (it actually is a township, not a city), and she teasingly(?) called me a hick. Which made me laugh because of how very glaringly I do not fit in here.
You see, not only have I not succumbed to the desire to wear plaid shirts and hiking boots, I also don’t wear jeans terribly often. I do own a couple (literally, two pair), but for the most part I favour slacks. And it’s not about comfort or class or style or anything as rational as that. No, I don’t like wearing jeans because they don’t match hardly anything.
That’s right. I think they don’t match my tops. Know why? Because they’re blue people! Blue! So when I shrug my way into a black top and look down at my ensemble I wince at the clash. And I’m an Autumn Child so most of my clothing is in shades of green, brown, orange, and burgundy. Not such a good fit with the blue!
So I wear my olive green slacks more often than not, wearing my jeans at home where I can’t be seen as much. Sometimes venturing out into public in them, that age old desire to fit in having overpowered my cringing, wincing, and grimacing over the clashing colours.
It’s too bad that my ghostly pale complexion makes wearing white ill advised, or I could totally lick this problem.
After all. White goes with anything.

Resist the plaids and they will flee from you. Draw nigh unto slacks, they will draw nigh unto you. (unless they are of the Napoleon Dynamite persuasion)
I wear my jeans with everything unless I’m on the treadmill, then I go for yoga pants
You and I have the same closet. Although, when I come to visit you, I will rest in the knowledge that you will not be rude and tell me my shirt clashes with my jeans.
At least I don’t wear Stretchy Pants.
Nachhoooooooo!

Blasphomy this post is. Blasphomy I say. Oh my dear, jeans go with EVERYTHING. Though I dare say a lovely pair of khacki’s are more comfy.

I’m with you to a point–I love me my khaki slacks–but see, but my favorite pair of jeans are BLACK!

I’m fairly certain that I couldn’t live without my jeans. The best part is that they do match everything. Isn’t funny how different our perspectives can be?
As far as the yelling, it’s a goal I’m working on myself. Patience has never been a virtue of mine.
You’ve got it backwards! Black goes with everything, especially blue jeans!
Oh honey, we need to talk about this. Either that, or you need to watch several episodes of “What Not to Wear”.
I’m a “warm neutral”. I wear jeans all the time. Jeans go with pretty much everything. Notice I said “go” and not “match”. Clothes don’t need to match, these days everything matching is kind of a no-no. The colors need to go with each other. You can get different shades of blue that will go with about anything.
I have about three pairs of jeans and they don’t fit very well (The nicest ones are more than I can pay for!) but the blue goes with everything I have. Orange, brown, and black all go with blue jeans. Orange and brown are some of my favorite colors to wear.
Dark washes are the most slimming, and look classy when paired with a nice top. Not that you have to wear jeans if you’re not comfortable, but rest assured that they do go with a lot of colors.
Of course, no matter what it is, if it makes you wince to look at it you wont’ feel comfortable in it. But my white and orange layered tees look great with my jeans and some chunky wood jewelry!

Oh yes, and Annette is right…there are black jeans! Although I don’t like to wear black on my bottom unless it’s a skirt. Makes me feel too conspicuous.
Speaking of conspicuous, once I saw a plus-size, and I do mean plus-size fire engine red skirt with a huge belt. I remember making my husband snicker with my comment as to why a plus-size woman like myself would like to make people think a fire engine was passing by. I like warm colors.

Ok, last comment, I promise…for now. You can get some khakis.
And I typed all this sitting here in my cotton candy pale pink sweats with my black sweater that needs washing. I grabbed them because I needed to be covered to make breakfast.
I’m not qualified to pass on fashion advice until after I’m showered and dressed, sorry! :D

I used to wear jeans all the time, now they don’t fit… which depresses me because I really like my jeans, so I wear pajamas now… I can’t wear slacks because I feel like I should be going out somewhere, or working in an office.

All I wear is jeans, because I figure they match with anything. I figured they aren’t “blue,” they are “denim.” But wearing jeans every day sure does get boring. I need to purchase some slacks to mix things up a bit!

Hmm. I wear jeans 99% of the time. I have probably 9 pairs of jeans. Can we still be friends, though?

Oh, you need a Stacey and Clinton intervention (What not to wear). Stacey thinks dark wash jeans go with everything. I now have three pair so that I don’t have to think about an outfit three days a week….just pick a top and go. However, I am the same girl that will wear the same pair of earrings (no matter what the color) for weeks on end…so i hardly should be giving you fashion advice…. I’ll shut up.

I with you on the jeans not matching things. I can’t wear a blue top when I wear blue jeans, because it bothers me to have two different colors of blue together (unless they are mutually complementary).
I almost always, as in five days out of seven, wear skirts. They are more flattering on me than pants and I have great color options and choices, and I think they’re amazingly comfortable (I don’t wear lam-o skirts that aren’t comfortable) AND then I’m always feeling slightly dressy, which is nice when I’m just home all day.
Of course, I do happen to be wearing blue jeans as I type this. Figures.

You’re so funny…don’t you know denim goes with everything! ;) I seriously would wear my jeans with any top, from a plain cotton t-shirt to a fancy satin blouse and think it looked good. Slacks however drive me crazy. I always feel self-conscious whenever I wear them and like people are staring at me. I feel like they’re wondering why I’m so dressed up just to go to the grocery store or something. Which is silly ‘cuz I’ve seen other people wearing non-jeans pants and looking really good, I’m just convinced that “I” am the only one that looks bad. So that’s funny that you’re the opposite. ;)
KieraAnne´s last blog post..Remember When
It’s totally weird that as a society, we’ve conditioned ourselves into thinking that jeans go with anything. For years, I owned one pair that I could never find. But then I turned a corner where I thought, If everyone else thinks they match, then why do I care? And now I wear them a lot. Because they fit and my tummy doesn’t roll over the top of them.

I’m have the opposite problem – all I own is jeans. Which I guess Stacey and Clinton would be happy with, but it makes dressing up to go out difficult (although I do have a pair of ‘dressy’ jeans)
I’m still back here toward the beginning laughing to myself because you said “slacks” and now I can’t stop picturing my grandma and hearing her say, “oh, I like those slacks,” and me saying “Grandmaaaa, they’re PANTS.” :)

You crack me up. I had no idea that was your reasoning about blue jeans. Maybe that’s why my favorite jeans have to be a nondescript and half-faded blue shade before I’ll even buy them.
As for the plaid, I’m with you. I liked it when I was in my Scottish tartan wool stage, but BC can certainly find something more fashionable for us ladies than that. Plaid can be worn by my mountain climbing husband, but not by me if it involves flannel.
The hiking boots….well, I love a good pair of boots that I can leave at the door, but lately I’ve been craving a pair of Mary Jane’s. I can’t justify the purchase though, because my feet are in no danger of going naked with the 40-odd pair currently in two big boxes in the baby’s room. Granted, most of those 40 pair cannot be worn in BC because they are from my dressy teacher days and not designed for mud, or my husband would get a rash because he’d have to dress up to coordinate with me if I wore the cute shoes.
So I take it you wouldn’t be crazy enough to sink over $200 on “designer” maternity jeans. (Yes, they actually sell those. Crazy, I know.)
Maybe I should take a page out of your book and learn to be more color coordinated. And maybe you could teach me how to wear fun earrings and jewelry like you do without me feeling like I’m a little girl dressing up to be a grown-up. =)
Haha! All I wear are jeans. To me, they go with everything.

your site looks totally fantastic!!!
wait. jeans, by definition, go with just about EVERYThing. i don’t know of one thing in my wardrobe that i can’t put with my jeans. i had none earlier in the year, now i have four that fit FANTASTIC (thank you, mom jean section of debenham’s – you are pricey but worth it). oh baby. you and i need to have a sit down and i’ll explain this whole thing to you. it’s fine. or i can just come over and we can sip tea-and-what-ever-YOU-sip. :)
I’m just the opposite…I wear jeans nearly every day (hello…artist) and am convinced they go with everything. But I swear I’m not a hick. Just, well, practical…and a tad rebellious! :)

You are so funny. Always a treat to drop by your blog :-) So I don’t get why plaid is the pattern of choice for residents in small towns. Is that really true or just a stereotype? I think you should post about “plaids’ next time. I’m honestly curious.
I wear both jeans and slacks. I like jeans because it’s the exact opposite of what I wear Monday to Friday. I have to be in a business suit Monday to Friday 10 hours each day. Jeans to me = freedom! I don’t even care about the top. By the time weekend rolls around I’m so sick of color coordinating my outfit anything goes.

Hee hee, so now I know what you were talking about. I really shouldn’t catch up backwards- bad Jo- anyway, I also think jeans go with everything, but if they’re not for you that’s fine too. I need a good pair of jeans for Mr B’s up and coming gig. I just relegated my last pair to painting only as they are now too big. Yay.

HAHAHA. Pardon me if I assume you’re being funny here… If you’re being serious, then, well… you can hate me. Haha. Actually, the first thought that came into my mind here as I read this was, “oh, crap. I was wearing jeans and a black shirt that time we went to dinner. She must think I’m SUCH a HICK!”
And then I thought, wow, I don’t think Kim thinks I’m a hick. If she does, well, my black-shirt-and-jeans attire probably should be the least of my concerns. :-D
Still, jeans are NOT BLUE! Okay, perhaps TECHNICALLY they are. But not practically. Practically, they’re a neutral. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

lolo…I had to come back and read this post just because of the next one! I love all the jean advocates….to funny!! anyway, you know, I think that there is a VERY large population here in our little hick town that are “out of place” city folk trying for a slower paced lifestyle. well, maybe not very large…okay maybe its just you and me….but, I dare say that a little bit of fashion YES can brighten up a grocery store trip and really, a black top, a pair of kick but jeans (like the ones you have with the paint!) and a beautiful scarf and you are one stylin’ mama!! oh…and shoes…lets not forget about the need for good shoes!!
okay….you know what!? I’m having another brain wave…we need to go to the nearest city together and spend the day, just us mamas, eating at yummy restaurants and shopping at an adult pace, ci?

I used to wear nothing but sweats, so jeans were a step up for me…and I do still wear jeans, but if I can, I would rather wear my dockers…they are tan…does tan go with everything?
I think I like blogging because I can socialize without worrying about what anyone else thinks of my clothes…until NOW (heehee).
