A Sweet Moment

Posted by Kym

Me: Love you Becca!
Becca: Love you bigger Mommy!
Me: Love you biggest!
Becca: Love you bestest!

It’s nothing much, really. Just a short little interchange between me and my cherub cheeked, grinning two year old. She runs about, strawberry blonde curls bouncing, shrieking in alternating bouts of joy and frustration. Her laughter swells my heart in inexplicable ways, and her screaming often threatens to melt the ear wax out of my ears. She is a walking dichotomy, this vibrant, exuberant child of mine.

Sweet moments like the one recorded above need to be remembered. Because there are tears. There is mess. There is a burgeoning attitude that sometimes makes me smile wryly, and other times brings me to the brink of despair. There are screaming contests with her older sister. There is the bright purple imprint of her teeth in her sister’s cheek. There is the stubborn refusal to come when called, and a tendency to run towards danger at break-neck speeds.

She exhausts me some days. But she is one of the delights of my life.

She is dancing to the music from my playlist right this moment, sporting a pair of sunglasses and singing a song she is making up as she goes. Soon, I will put the laptop aside and scoop her up, listening to her delighted squeals as I spin her about and tickle her tummy. I will probably hang her upside down and watch as her hair swings about, and then I will pull her up into my arms and snuggle her against my shoulder as we dance.

There is so much joy to be found. She reminds me to seek it.

  1. Rebecca Said,

How cute! I think she and Bugaboo are very, very much alike. If we lived close to you I’d bet they’d both have fun wearing each other out by dancing, if that were possible!

Those moments really help with all the other stuff they do, doesn’t it?

Aaawww… that’s so sweet. I love those moments.

  4. Sarah Said,

I love moments like that. I think it’s a gift given to Moms and Dads to remind us why we wanted kids in the first place. Sometimes it also works to make us feel bad for not twirling more. ;) Your post inspired me to stand up and dance with my son.

  5. Kate Said,

Isn’t it wonderful to have those beautiful moments in the midst of all the chaos of raising children? :)

  6. Thora Said,

Oh, I love sweet moments with my daughter! Especially because she is two, and some days they are few and far in between! Thanks for sharing this one.

It’s important to record the lovely moments. Makes it all (or almost all) worthwhile.

  10. Heidi Ashworth Said,

Kids–they are our greatest challenge and our greatest joy. It’s all part of the plan. You should write this down in a journal for her–she will treasure it one day!

    About Me

    The Truth

I make no promises which cannot be kept through laziness and self-indulgence.

I'm a skinny person from the neck up. There's a reason you only ever see head shots of me. Yes, I suffer from floating head syndrome.

I don't know why I'm bothering to fill this section in since I'll probably change templates before anyone thinks to look down here anyway.
