Good Things Come in Threes Too

Posted by Kym

1) I’m 1600 words ahead on my NaNoWriMo work in progress. I still can’t describe a landscape to save my life, the whole thing is horribly dramatic, but I’m having so much fun with it! And I’m learning to write out of order, which is hard for a rigidly linear minded gal like me.

2) I’ve made huge progress on the upper floor. The closets are rather chaotic still, but it’s chaos with a thin veneer of organization on top, which is a huge improvement. I’ll tackle those next week, I think. Today I’m debating between the laundry room or the fridge. Here’s a link to the Before and After album again: After.

3) John and Granny are still stressed but having a safe, quiet place to sleep at night has worked wonders for them. It feels good to be offering them safe harbour like this. Plus, Neil finally hung up the curtains in the guest room and they look fabulous! He also installed the stairgate, and the antique bronze dinner bell we bought on our last trip. Something about winter makes him restless and having company even more so. He starts pacing about and finally finds a “project” to work on. He also installed a rod in the laundry room for hanging his To Be Ironed shirts on so they’re not thrown over the pretty wicker chair in our bedroom. He’s also installed the two new kitchen light fixtures so I don’t have to look at the 60’s globe ones anymore. This is a good thing indeed. It’s easier to ignore the horrid wall paper and boring white walls when other cosmetic changes are being made. It makes me happy.

As to the tennant situation, I just know you’re wondering why on earth the police aren’t involved yet. Thing is, there are laws to protect tennant rights so that landlords can’t just chuck them out willy-nilly. They’ve had to file papers, and it takes 10 days before they can file the paper that takes “three business days” and then they can get the bailiff to remove the fellow. The fellow who, along with his wife, is now smoking up a storm in John’s nice home, and letting his outside only dog romp around indoors. The fellow who when told to vacate the premises just smirked and said, “We’re here now. You can’t just toss us out in the snow, you know, there’s laws. You’re hooped.”

They’ve also discovered that he’s on probation for assault. Owes money to several rough fellows who’ve come pounding on the front door. And is not from out of province as he said but from right here in town and is well known for pulling these sorts of schemes. He has a history of violence and my Granny is very right to be afraid of him.

Sometimes, I’m really glad I don’t understand people. If I did I might feel obligated to do something about it.

  1. Rebecca Said,

Your house looks great, girl! Way to go! You inspire me. I think tomorrow is going to be an “attacking the house” day.

I’m sorry to hear about the stuff your Grandma is going through. You are so sweet to give her and her husband a safe harbor. I hope it works out soon.

I can’t wait to see how this book turns out!

  2. Rebecca Said,

What? I’m actually first? Not that I minded not being first, but this is some sort of record for me! Cool.

    Now, back to the grindstone….

  3. Lisa Milton Said,

You’ve inspired me. I’m changing gears in my book and wondered if that’s allowed. *Allowed*? Someone is a bit silly, huh?

  4. LisAway Said,

I feel all restful just look at those after shots. I LOVE a clean house!! Thanks for the reminder. . .

I hope John and Granny can get some $ for damages, too.

And I love that you are stretching yourself with your writing. I don’t know if I could write out of order. Really, I don’t know if I could write at all.

  5. Nicki Said,

I can’t wait to read your novel…I bet it’s going to be fabulous! And your house is looking amazing. Just in time for the holidays too. You and I are in the same mode right now.

  7. Kelline Boel Said,

My heart goes out to your grandma, I have a horrible landlord tenant situation, except I’m the tennant with an horrible landlord.

I’ll blog about it, when I’m out of the apartment.

Good I think out weighs the bad by tons…..else I couldn’t handle by lots of three bad that come my way!

I’m so glad Granny is safe. And huge kudos on the nano progress! I’ve got to update my page….

  9. Annette Said,

Writing out of order is the only way to go.

My husband’s dressshirts are of the no-iron variety. Highly recommended.

I understand not being able to evict right away, but if there’s evidence of drug use, can’t the cops arrest someone? I’m betting their trash is full of evidence, and at least in the States, once you put something in your trash can, it’s public property, so no search warrant is needed. Get them behind bars!

  10. Heidi Ashworth Said,

Congratulations on being ahead on your writing AND for doing all of that cleaning! It’s amazing! What are you smoking? Can you send some my way? I love all the beautiful wood in your house . . .

  12. Melissa Said,

Your after pictures look fantastic! And way to go on the NaNoWriMo! I hit 9,000 words last night… I’m hoping to get a couple thousand more today… we’ll see.
I’m so sorry your Granny is having such trouble. Hopefully they WILL be able to toss him out in the snow very soon. Sounds like a real jerk… go over and stuff tuna fish into all the vents in the house. Then every time the heat kicks on it will smell NAS-TY! MWAHAHAHA!
    Vindictive? Me? Maybe….

  13. Melanie J Said,

Look at you, all together and stuff. I’m sorry your granny is having such an awful time with these tenants but I’m glad she’s got a safe and comfortable place to go.

  14. Abra Said,

Ohh Kim! That’s so good your house is getting a little botox! Love it when something new is done too :)
Stupid landlord/tennant acts. The same laws that are there to protect, can also harbor that sucks.

  15. GrumpyAngel Said,

I’m so impressed with how much cleaning you’ve done! You’re amazing. It must feel great. I love your corner of inspiration. Pretty rocks. Tell me more about those. I don’t think I’ve read about it on your blog?

Your Granny has the tenant from heck! I hope that’s resolved.

  16. Mindy Said,

WooHoo! on the house cleaning…it looks great! I especially love how you closed the closet doors! ;)

I so hope they are able to get that guy out soon, that must be a tremendous amount of stress.

  17. Josi Said,

You can send Neil and your guests over here if it means he’ll take on the Honey Do list. I get the same way when there are guests, but my husband retreats. We got rid of a guest last week–can we throw a Hallelujah out for that little tender mercy? Good luck with the Granny situation, how scary. Ever see Pacific Heights?

  18. Heather of the EO Said,

  20. julie wright Said,

ummm . . that husband of yours is a keeper! Congrats on your work in progress! And your super cool clean house! And your house guests settling into their situation. I’d get my gran out of that situation too!

Yay for the writing and the organizing. As far as the tenant…I hope they get him out soon. This is ridiculous, I can’t believe that people are so awful like that. I’m glad you can offer them a safe place to stay.

    About Me

    The Truth

I make no promises which cannot be kept through laziness and self-indulgence.

I'm a skinny person from the neck up. There's a reason you only ever see head shots of me. Yes, I suffer from floating head syndrome.

I don't know why I'm bothering to fill this section in since I'll probably change templates before anyone thinks to look down here anyway.
