Thursday Tidbits
by Kym on January 22, 2009
The lovely Luisa tagged me for a photo meme and though I’m not much of a meme’er, I simply can’t deny her anything. Plus, I’m meeting her in person this spring and I don’t want her to kick me in the shin or anything.
Pictured on the left there is the cover of the quote book I self-published several months ago. I still have a couple extra copies kicking around so maybe I’ll invent a contest some day to help get rid of them. Click the image to peek at the listing and read the first 15 pages for free. And in case you’re wondering, no, I didn’t rig it in order to show off. I’d much rather show of cute pictures of my kids. Honest.
Now, as this isn’t a “real” post, per se, I’ll toss an extra blurb or two in here.
1) Re: The hitting incident. Yes, it was intentional. The four year old boy had left the table (well within his rights after polishing off two full platefuls) and was making his way to the lego table on the other side of the room. One of our guests, a childless and recently widowed fellow, decided he ought to sit back down and smacked him upside the head as he scolded him. When I protested he claimed the child had run into his hand, but we all saw differently. I think we were too shocked to say anything more, but the mother of the child was livid. Especially as this isn’t the first time this has happened with this particular fellow. He won’t be coming to our home until after the children’s bedtime in future.
2) And yes, Neil’s not much for giving me lots of warning, and never scruples to toss last minute guests/events at his mildly neurotic wife. To a point, this has been a good thing, as it has forced me to unclench a little. His more easy going approach to life makes him a much happier person by nature, and I envy him that. I just wish these lessons weren’t so often at the expense of my dignity and sanity!
3) To balance out the crumminess of yesterday evening, I booked my flight for the LDS Storymaker’s Conference being held in Provo at the end of April. I got a fabulous deal on the airfare, and the thought of the conference has me completely overwhelmed with joyful anticipation and mind numbing fear. It’s an intimidating prospect for me, but I think I need the extra push to commit myself further to my writing. Those in the Utah area, I’ll be there April 23rd-27th, and hope to see as many of you as possible. My best friend Dedee and conference events get first priority though!
Happy Thursday Everyone!

That is a great cover for you book. I’d never seen it before. :D
Yikes on the hitting incident. I’m not sure what I would do there… but wow.
LOL, Neil and I sound a fair bit a like and it drives Chris bananas.
Your conference sounds fun. I can’t wait to hear more about it.

Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait to see you in April, even if I’m third in line behind Dedee and the conference! I’ve got to get on the stick and get my plane tickets as well.
To Teh Interwebs: I own a copy of the above-pictured book, and it is delightful. Treat yourself to a copy of your own right away!
I’m still stunned and amazed by the hitting incident. Wow.

What on Earth would make that man think it was okay to smack another persons child. I’m not sure what I would have done if it had been mine. Sheesh.
I’m glad you’re excited about your conference. You are a great writer as I’ve said before.

Thrilled that you’re coming, and dying to see you!
(I had so much fun lunching with Dedee and Anne last fall…
the only thing that could have made it better would have been, well, YOU.)
Still on the fence regarding that story conference.
But eager to meet so many good friends there.
