Confession

by Kym on February 19, 2009

Although I claim the crayon artwork on my walls is there because I’m too lazy to bother scrubbing it off, the truth is…

…I’m obscurely proud of my children for “colouring outside the lines” and I actually smile a bit whenever I walk past one of their creations. While laziness certainly is a factor, I think I’d be kind of sad to see them go. They kind of brighten up the place. You see, our walls are a boring white and convincing Neil to paint them is going to take awhile…

…especially if the kids keep colouring on the walls…I may be shooting myself in the foot here. Dang.

I also worry that scolding the children for making messes and then proudly displaying their “art” for an interminable amount of time afterwards may be sending conflicting messages.

Which might be why I found a crayon rainbow in the stairwell today…

Sigh.

I’m my own worst enemy.

No wait…second worst. Top slot goes to Cadbury mini eggs.

Mmmmmm, Cadbury mini eggs. Oh man. Way to be laid back about the art on your walls! We’ve only once ever had a tiny little happy face the size of a penny drawn lightly in pencil, which I don’t think we noticed until a loooong time after it was drawn and I was SHOCKED that one of our kids would do such a thing! I think laid back is probably a good thing.

I echo Lisa – CADBURY MINI EGGS!!! Yum.

And you’re my hero. I turn into some kind of Mommy Monster when my kids draw on the walls. Can I be like you?

I have a friend who built a house with a beautiful white foyer with marble tile floor and a great chandelier and a rising staircase and then painted little scenes all over the walls. It was actually quite striking.

Ah yes, Cadbury mini eggs. If I purchase the big bag, no one eats them but me. I know I need to stay away from them. Ugh.

Knock on wood, I haven’t had any coloring on the walls yet. But I can see how you might think it’s cute…as long as it stays on your walls!

We always buy extra paint for cover-ups because this is INEVITABLE. Just yesterday at FHE, we discovered three NEW masterpieces in our stairwell and downstairs. This is the reason we plan on using all of our furniture until it wouldn’t be stupid to buy new stuff.

Oh my, how I love me some mini eggs. They are just toooo good. We have LOTS and LOTS of coloring on our walls too. Magic Erasers don’t even work…

I love Cadbury eggs… Easter’s coming! May the stores realize it…

I love that you are loving their drawings. Sometimes I wonder if our society isn’t squashing creativity with its insistence that we always have everything pristine and white and clean.

My number one enemy right now is the half price Dove chocolate left over from Valentine’s Day. Uh, oops. Must remember that I just shouldn’t buy it in the first place, half-price or no. In fact, being half price seems to make me eat it twice as fast. Lesson learned.

Have you heard of Randy Pausch? He did the now famous “Last Lecture”. He died late last year of pancreatic cancer. In his lecture, one of the things he talks about is writing on walls…well, I’ll let you read it. Page 17 when he’s talking about his mom and some of the things he did growing up.

Love the new template!!! Very peaceful.

Kudos to you for not stifling your little ones. It’s so easy to ‘proper way’ them into losing all creativity and originality that is so inherent in little kids.

When our kids were really little, we had a “Crayon Wall.” They colored their little hearts out on the wall, and then every time we had people over, they couldn’t leave without adding their own little memento.
It was great and lasted for years :) I miss the crayon wall.

Ha! The Cadbury joke had me laughing. :-)

My boys don’t color on walls … but then again they don’t like to color much at all. :-( *sigh*

I love me way too many sweets, but you can keep the eggs – real or otherwise. Blech. I don’t get it.

{I like how you keep your cool over the scribbles. A lot of mom would lose their mind, and really, what a silly thing to freak out over.)

Maybe if they color enough he’ll agree to paint the walls? If not, toothpaste and a toothbrush works wonders on crayon . ..

That was a Planet of the Apes joke. (In case your husband isn’t a movie geek like mine.)

It’s just a funny dramatic line that cracks me up. And the fact that I feel I have to explain why I’m pseudo-swearing probably means that it using it was a very bad idea in the first place.

Sorry about that.

I’m going to give one word of caution about letting your kids color on the walls… I had a friend that didn’t care about that sort of thing either… till her kids colored on walls at a friends house.

We aren’t twins on the mini cadbury egg thing… they are just okay to me…

What a good idea to have a designated crayon wall. An excellent compromise. You get to discuss why it’s OK to do it here and not there, and you get to keep the pictures.

We have a huge pinboard on the kitchen wall, where they can pin up their own pictures. We come down like a ton of bricks on writing on the walls though.

We have passed the wall drawing stage. But not the booger wiping on the walls or the finger print, or the various other smeer stage.

YOU are NOT a walloer.

Our walls need paint too. But then I would have to actually scrape off those boogers. (((shudder)))

by Dr Andros McButtluv on February 20, 2009 at 3:27 am. #

You should get some big rolls of butcher paper to tape up on the walls for them to color on. I’m sure they’d love that.

Andes Mints. . .

My kids can’t color on the walls. They don’t belong to me.
