I tried to wear one of my favourite necklaces today, but I forgot to pack earrings to match it.  I tried wearing it without earrings, but my ears felt naked.  The earrings won out.  I think I need them to feel feminine, having lopped all my hair off the way I did.

Sometimes, when I’m feeling a bit poorly and phlegmy and whatnot, I can’t stand to eat until I brush the morning taste out of my mouth.  But then the toothpaste ruins my enjoyment of my breakfast.  It’s a quandry, alright.

I’ve seen a couple people here with scarves so long they trail on the ground.  I don’t understand fashion, even as I am swept up in complete fascination by it.

Some city dwellers seem to have this incredible urge to stand out.  Their clothing and accessories, their behaviour, even the way they walk all seem to cry out for attention.  After a week here I am coming to understand why.  The anonymity of city life is a bit degrading somehow.  One begins to feel invisible – lost in the tumult of people.  I can understand the outlandish nature of some people’s physical appearance based on this.  They want to be noticed.  Others, I think, enjoy the invisibility and lose themselves quite happily in it.  People watching at home is dull stuff compared to here.

Still, I’m looking forward to going home on Sunday.

And really, really hoping I threw out anything that may have started to smell after ten days…

Today will be a strange day.  A full day without my girls or my sweetheart.  Driving down to Seattle to see a dear friend.  Alone.  I don’t know if the fluttery feeling in my stomach is excitement or anxiety…

Interesting reflection on the anonymity of city life. That makes perfect sense.

And I, too hope you didn’t leave anything in the fridge. I can’t handle moldy food (which is why I’m pretty good about cleaning stuff out regularly) and if something every DOES get nasty, I just throw it all away, container included. (See, I’m cheap, too. So I hate throwing away my containers (what are they CALLED!?! Not tupperware. . .) Oh, and also I care about the environment. So many reason’s to clean out the fridge!)

There are days when I crave anonymity. Living in a small town is sometimes hard on me simply because I want to be invisible. You’ve just strengthened my resolve to move–sadly my husband has no such resolve.

I love the anonymity that big cities confer; I find it very liberating. Have fun in Seattle!

Boy, I don’t understand fashion at all. In France, everyone wears black. All black. No color. I really wished I had packed more black than one pair of pants because I stuck out like a sore thumb!

I hope you are enjoying yourself, and I know you will love going back to your home sweet home.

Yep, the whole brush your teeth before breakfast is a tricky one. You just need to brush about an hour before you’re ready for breakfast and you’ll be good to go.

Here’s hoping there is no stinky science experiments waiting for you when you get home.

I am so glad you were able to come down … and I am sure all those flutters you felt were pure excitement ;) !! I had a beyond lovely afternoon. It was very rejuvenating and refreshing to be with someone so easy to hang out with.

It’s anxiety–I hate driving in new cities, makes me all kinds of paranoid. Have a great rest of the trip.

I’m glad you got home safely!

A trick to the toothpaste thing–use a kids flavored toothpaste, like berry or something. That doesn’t ruin breakfast like mint does.

I also enjoyed your comments on the anonymity of the city very much. Most of the time I like blending in. I think it has something to do with the scale. ;)
