Apparently, I Lied

All that jabber about being happy to be sick because it means the pregnancy is progressing? I take it all back. Yesterday was spent curled up on the couch, moaning, and fighting off waves of nausea everytime I so much as lifted my head.

Not. So. Happy.

On the bright side, I kept the TV off all day and my girls played happily with each other all day while I attempted not to die. I also finished two books, and read about seven dozen to Emma and Becca. The many literary delights of the day almost made up for the queasiness. Almost.

Also on the bright side, I’m finally experiencing a pregnancy where my answer to the question “How have you been feeling?” won’t be met with shooting-dagger-eyes and mutters of “I hate you . . . ” The stomach of steel has finally been breached.

And I have an excuse for sitting here, exhausted, writing a horribly whiney blog post about what really is the tiniest of problems in a world full of horrors and sorrows. But I know that no one is going to tell me off because everyone knows I’m a powder keg of pregnancy hormones and I could blow at ANY time.

Oh yes. The power.

Bad news is that the first trimester is almost over and I’m starting to show already. Which means we’re moving into the complete-strangers-petting-the-pregnant-lady stage. Maybe I’ll trick them all with an “I’m Just Fat” t-shirt . . .

  1. I totally vote for the I’m just fat t-shirt. I hate the rubbing belly thing. Bleh!

Prayers here that the second trimester will be better than the first has been.

  2. Oh! I hate showing early. But it sort of makes it more okay for you to be whiny, I think. I don’t handle the nausea all that wonderfully well, either. And I rarely “get sick” I just AM sick most of the time. No good.

It sounds like you don’t have too much of this stage left to go! I hope the nausea goes away sooner rather than later!!

  3. I’ve only had two people touch my stomach at all with the last two pregnancies…I think I’ve mastered the “I don’t know you that well so don’t even think about getting close enough to touch me” face. Maybe you’re so sick ‘cuz it’s a boy this time? My sister-in-law swears that she gets migraines with girls and nauseous with boys, so it could happen. :) Hope you feel better soon.

  4. Well, at least people don’t try to pat your pregnant belly when you aren’t actually pregnant! I live in fear of that happening to me someday since people like to assume that my fat belly is carrying a baby.
I thought of you yesterday when I spent my Barnes and Noble gift card that I got for my Birthday. I bought FarWorld and four other books.

  5. HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?!?!?

    *hangs head in shame*

I disappear for a week on the blogging front and you get all knocked up on me. ;o) Congratulations, girl. And sorry about the hormonal gunk. And about the belly. I have no words of wisdome, other then: I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.

(And you’ll be happy about it in approximately six weeks ….)

  10. I showed early with my 3rd too… and the title of your blog post scared me. I thought maybe you weren’t pregnant after all… and this will probably sound weird, but I’m glad you’re just sick! :) I hope it gets better soon

I’m so glad the title of this post was just about being sick. I was worried that it meant something worse. :)

  12. I can already tell I’m going to hate that stage… the strangers petting. I hate how I have complete strangers (or very minimal acquaintances) ask me how my engagement/wedding planning is going. I have the same forced answer for each of them, “It’s great. Stressful but great.” At least with this they don’t touch me. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to handle that :)

Ooo, man I feel your pain! I am soooo sick when I’m pregnant that the doctor puts me Phenegrin (sp?) to help out – a drug for cancer patients! It helps, but doesn’t make everything all better by any means. Congrats on the new arrival though! I loved the way you announce it with the “bun in the oven” picture, too cute! I’m assuming you hoping for a boy, hence the blue plugger on the roll. Hope all continues to go well. Try ginger pills in the vitamin section of the store. If you take one when you first get up in the morning it does wonders. They helped tons before my first doctor appointment with both Blake and Ashlyn when they finally wrote the prescription for the Phenegrin.

  18. Someone probably already said this but I’m too busy being sick to read all the comments –maybe your new level of sickness means it’s a boy! yay! Also–feeling the way you do is not a teensy weensy problem. Not being able to function is a big problem. Thank goodness it is temporary and for a good cause but for the time being, it’s just about the biggest problem anyone can have! Hang in there!

  23. I am so sorry! I know exactly what you mean. This pregnancy was much better nausea-wise, but all of a sudden the third trimester became a signal to my body to get sick again. I’m so grateful for my bed and the laptop.

Congratulations on getting to the second trimester!

  24. UGH… nothing beats throwing up in the 7-11 parking lot where you stopped to get an orange juice… then right after pulling into the Burger King drive thru because you “just have to have” two jr.whoppers with cheese and then scarfing them in the parking lot of your work because you work at the Jewish Centre and Burger King, apparently isn’t Kosher (who knew?) And then walking in and immediately throwing up in the garbage can in the lobby. Yes. Curling up on the couch is a much better option :)
    Hope you’re feeling better luv!

  27. yeah, well with my third i’m pretty sure i was showing *before* i was pregnant. it happens.

ps you have to give them the eye when they get within belly-patting range…go for the “i’m half-crazy in a pregnant sort of way, so back off, sister” look. you might have to practice this a bit in the mirror first, but trust me. it’s all in the eye.
