I won’t claim that I never thought to apply that word to myself because, humility aside, I’ve been hoping and striving towards that goal. Today is the first time and I feel gleeful and, truth be told, a little sick.
I haven’t worked much in the short story medium, and the end result was odd. It reads rather disjointedly and the overall effect is quite disturbing, but thankfully that seems to be what Noctober was looking for and now, here, I can see my own words, my strangely crafted story, visible for all the world to see.
I’ve read the other stories published in this month’s issue and have to admit they put mine to shame. And yet I think I’ll ignore that discomfort and focus on the honor of being included amongst such innovative writers.
And now, to find a paper bag to breathe into and then, yes, then some chocolate. I would hate to look back across the years to this moment and reflect that I neglected to celebrate it properly. Hmm…maybe I’ll start working on my novel again…
