Something Light – Because that Last Post was a bit of a Downer
by Kym on July 18, 2009
Neil (as he’s ironing his work shirts): So Emma, what do you want to be when you grow up? An eye doctor like Daddy?
Emma: No. I want to be a mommy.
Mommy: Why do you want to be a mommy?
Emma: Because mommies can wear wrinkled shirts and eye doctors can’t.
Neil and I burst out laughing at her logic. It was a nice life role affirming moment for me as well.
I hate ironing. Good thing I’ve got this stay at home mommy gig. Phew.

HA! Tess wants to be an eye doctor. I’d better not tell her the job includes ironing. That might be a deal breaker.

Even better, my oldest two girls are old enough to think that ironing is cool. So any time something needs ironing, they fight over who gets to do it. I let them and split up the job, and then I don’t have to do any of it.
I have no idea how long this will last, but I’m milking it.

Too true! I never ironed. My mom never ironed. My husband doesn’t iron either (he works in IT and buys the wrinkle-free stuff … gets him by just fine.)
I had a roommate and college that ironed everything … even t-shirts. In college! She always looked great, but yeah, I wasn’t about to put in that kind of time.

I am totally giggling. Yeah, mommies can wear wrinkled clothing. That’s good, considering my laundry spends a minimum of two weeks on the guest bed before I can get it folded, and by then it’s professionally creased just from the weight of all the new loads of clean laundry I’ve put on top of it. I figure I’ll catch up on laundry when my son goes to school. Oh, but if we homeschool….hmm, maybe college? =)

I love it! Especially given my vast hatred for ironing. I’m so glad my husband is in construction and ironed shirts in that field mean you don’t know what you’re doing or can’t be bothered to get dirty.

HAHAHAHA! She’s brilliant! I fiercely loathe ironing, but I definitely didn’t think things through quite so carefully at her age. Good thing I lucked out and landed a great SAHM gig, right?

That’s it! I always wondered why I picked this profession. Now I know! No ironing for me!

She’s a genius. It’s definitely a perk of the job. My kids don’t even know what an iron is.

Okay, that is so funny. And so true. I iron maybe once every two months, something for church (usually for the kids, I don’t buy stuff that has to be ironed.) Greg does his own ironing. That’s how it should be. :)

I hate ironing too. I’m with Emma. I think I’ll just be a mommy. And maybe a writer. I hear they don’t have to iron their shirts either. Much.

Ironing is kind of a pain in the butt. Has he tried those steam thingies? Or the throw-it-in-the-dryer for 15 minutes with a wet washcloth?

HAAAAA! Light your kids are funny! I’ll have to let my eye doctor daddy know why none of us wanted to grow up and share in his profession.

Hahaha! I LOVE her! And I love wearing wrinkled shirts, too! Tell her ARTISTS can wear wrinkled shirts and JEANS! (And of course still be mommies. Because we would never want to change that.)
