I Wish I May, I Wish I Might…

wishes
My life seems bound up in wishing lately. Wishing that the ultrasound tomorrow will yield the gender information we’re getting increasingly eager to find out. Wishing that the current heat wave would wave off somewhere and stop with its incapacitating effects already. Wishing to find the energy in the muddle of heat exhaustion to plan for our trip to Vancouver tomorrow. Wishing that Les Miserables will be as fabulous as our hopes and expectations are building it up to be in our minds, that we’ll stay awake long enough afterwards to make it across the border safely before collapsing in a Bellingham motel somewhere. Wishing that our Temple trip to Seattle combined with visiting dear friends and shopping for baby clothes will go as well as the heat will allow. Wishing that our girls won’t cause any lasting damage to my generous hearted parents who will be babysitting for us.

Wishing, wishing, wishing.

Wishing has its place. Always has, always will. It’s a fundamental part of being human, and the whimsy and wondering of it all can be vital food for the starving imagination. But when life is nothing but wishing, life stagnates somewhat. Wishing instead of doing. Wondering instead of living.

In the midst of all this wishing I’ve put off cleaning out the car, packing our bags, and ridding the house of anything that might stink up the place over the course of six days.

And now I’m sitting here writing about it all, still not doing anything. The human capacity for self-destructive behaviour seems to know no bounds…

Wait! Call me a star, because the following wish has been fulfilled. The car? Is cleaned out (it only took me ten minutes – why have I been putting that off so long?). Corny as it sounds, my friends, wishes DO come true.

I spend lots of time wishing too. A little is good~ hopeful, exciting, mysterious. Too much, and then, like you said, I get to wondering and wishing instead of living. I’m trying so hard to learn the art of contentment. To just be okay with what is, for now.

So, who cleaned the car?

I’ve been caught up in the wishing/what-might-have-been game a lot . . . you know the reason why.
It CAN cripple you if you let it . . . I know.
I’m learning that wishing won’t make things happen, but that goal-setting and making plans to acheive goals and following through will . . .
*HUGS* to you
Hope a great deal of your wishes come true this weekend! :)

Les Mis is a great show!
I hope you have a wonderful and enjoyable trip, and that you are able to find out if you are having a boy or a girl!

Isn’t it funny how similar “wishing” and “planning” can be? And how much our outcomes are determined by the tone of our wishes/plans?

Your posts always make me wax a little philosophical…

Happy trip.

You’ll get it done, and you’ll have a fantastic trip, too. Can’t wait to hear about that baby!

I LOVE despair.com.

I wish most of all that your ultrasound comes back with the report that you are having a HEALTHY baby! Excited to hear what it is!

I often have these wishes. Like today. Too bad they never extend to any action. Have a good time visiting the US (and good luck with your ultrasound!)

I *wish* I lived next door to you so I could hug you whenever I felt like it! I hear you about the car cleaning. I’m usually neurotic about it but I’m dreading it this time. Ugh.

I’m wishing all great and happy things for the ultrasound! I’m betting you $50 bucks that it’s human and $10 bucks that it’s a boy! (And praying my guts off that he’s happy and healthy and well!)

Nothing wrong with wishing. And look… you did get the car cleaned out! That’s more than I’ve accomplished today :) I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip!!

Hey, I detailed the kitchen today. Scrubbed the walls and the stove top. It’s a miracle!

Woohoo!! Now can you come and clean out my car because that’s what I’m wishing.

I hope you guys have a great trip and that tomorrow will fulfill yet another wish of yours.

Kimberly, thanks for your comment! I have seen you around in blogland quite a bit, but have never come over!

I like to wish for a lot of things. Hope Les Miz is everything you hope for!

Have a safe trip. May your baby be an uninhibited exhibitionist during his or her appointment. May your trip to Bellingham be lovely, and may the border guards be kind. And may the line to cross the border not be so long that your a/c starts to grow tired. =) Have a sweet and special time in Seattle. I will look forward to writing you soon!

I can’t believe I haven’t responded yet.

Can’t wait to hear the ultrasound results. I’m personally hoping for a boy who loves sports!
