Wobbly

by Kym on July 24, 2009

323Mood is a wobbly thing. An emotion dappled paintbrush that flicks by from moment to moment, painting us ever and always into new combinations of laughter, despair and confusion. Ever the paint grows thicker and we struggle in the depths of ourselves. Not everyone learns to swim.

As we grow we learn though. Learn that we can paint even as we are painted. Paint the lives of our loved one in shades of cheery yellow. Brilliant summer greens and shimmery ocean blues. We can paint them happy and loved and be open to their many myriad colours.

Oh what love can be shown in such painting.

And yet in that love there are dark colours as well. The dark streamers of sorrow and grief that wend their way through the sweet and happy. No one is all brightness and light. Moods are wobbly things after all. We learn though, in our painting, that it takes all the colours to create a masterpiece. All moods.

But oh what I would give, to paint the whole world happy!

I love that image, and you’re so right. The dark colors that we sometimes try to avoid help give depth to the bright and clear ones.

This is so beautifully written, Kim. I tend to be an admirer of the dark. Like Penny sings in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog, “Even in the darkness every color can be found.” For me, I might never appreciate that brilliance of light if I had not known the depth of that darkness. Either way, if I would, I would color the world with hopeful light, too.
I hope you know that your canvas is always one I love to admire. There is so much of that beloved light in your painting. Thank you, Kim. You’re one of my favorite artists.

I like these ideas. Mood is a tough one, and when you live in a house full of men like I do it is a bit difficult to just have a cry day. I have a very sensitive husband, but I am not sure he gets my moods sometimes.

And I LOVE the image you put up. Is it something you found online? I would so put this on my wall.

So sweet! Moms have it hard–if their mood is painted bright, everyone else’s suffers. Bummer.

Brilliantly stated! I have been stuck in a dark color mood for awhile, but I feel like I am finally breaking out some cheerier colors. Hopefully they can stay out for awhile :) !!
