She

A tribute to a friend who is moving away…
She is a tree. Life giver. Storm shelter. Shade from the oppressive heat. She is rooted deeply yet sways. Dances. The soft rustle of her movements is calming. She brings peace. She teaches through being. Her very existence is an inspiration.
She is firm. Resolute. She is no pretender. No seeker of glory. She yearns to be more than she is. Better. Yet in her there is something, a spiritual radiance, that shines forth and bathes in a warm glow all who are blessed to know her. She is kind. Yielding and accepting. She tolerates in others even those qualities that are in direct contrast with the very soul of her. She knows what it is to love and how to make that love a gift.
More than friend. Kindred spirit. Soul sister. Heart’s haven. Mind’s reprieve. Joy teacher. Life lover. Nurturer to oh so many. Laugher. Singer. Dancer. Mother. Teacher.
Oh that there were more such trees to seek shelter under. More such friends. And oh the sweetness of knowing her, and the bitter sorrow of being parted as she moves on to plant her deep roots in hopefully more fertile soil.
May you thrive there, Jenn. And may our sorrow at parting pass quickly as we anticipate joyful reunions, and the sweetness that will be your life in your new home.

So beautifully stated. I love every word. I’ve sought shelter under the lovely branches of similar friends. And felt that ache when they’re uprooted. But these kinds of friends? The real ones? The true ones? Stay in touch.
