Emma-isms

Heaven
While eating dinner the other night Emma began spooning her water out of her cup and into her mouth. I was going to scold her, and then observed to Neil that I did the same thing at her age.
Emma interrupted and said, “I know you did,” in a very matter-of-fact voice.
Me: How do you know that?
Emma: I watched you from up in heaven. Jesus told me I could watch my family and that’s how I saw you.
Definitely one of those slightly awed/awkward-laugh sort of moments.
Faith
Emma heaved a dramatic sigh.
Me: What’s wrong?
Emma: I miss Jesus. I really really want to really go to heaven and see him. [insert another sigh]
Me: But if you went to heaven you wouldn’t be able to come back. You’d have to stay there and we would miss you so much. We love having you on earth as part of our family.
Emma: Don’t worry. I’ll just tell God and Jesus I have to come back to earth in 26 weeks.
Prayer
One of Emma’s recent prayers:
“Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this day. I really really love my family. And please bless them to be healthy, and happy, and bless the grasshoppers. We really don’t want them to die. Because we LOVE grasshoppers and want them to be safe. And we want to have a good sleep, so we can grow really really big but not too big to bonk our heads everywhere. And I really miss you Jesus, and you too Heavenly Father. And I really want to come see you and live with you, in the name, of Jesus Christ, Amen!”
Disappointment
Emma, looking downcast: The Springy Chicken forgot to bring me a springy egg.
Me, in a casual, rhetorical sort of tone: It’s a tough life, what’re you going to do?
Emma: Nothing. [sigh] I’m just going to sit, sit, sit. Or…play the piano. [sigh]

Haha! That prayer is awesome!
Oh and yes, when life gets me down there is nothing better than to sit and play out my feelings on the piano. :)

I remember the days when me oldest prayed with one eye open. The prayers alaways had something to do with whatever was in his peripheral vision. “Please bless…. my soccer ball and my closet…”

I love it!! Kids are so honest in their feelings and thoughts. I remember telling my mom and dad that I was ready to go see Jesus and Heavenly Father for awhile. :)

I am glad she prayed for the grasshoppers. I don’t want them to die, either.

You know, the Springy Chicken missed our house too.
I thought it was just me.

The grasshoppers, I love that! My son has blessed his Bak-u-gons toys from time to time. It always makes me smile.

What a sweetheart – 26 weeks. One of my daughters said something similar and when we said we’d miss her if she went back she said it was okay because she’d still be able to look down and see us – therefore she wouldn’t miss us.

She is absolutely precious. Those first few completely send shivers down my spine…but in a good way.

These are so, so cute, and such a good indication of the good things you’re teaching her.
