I Spy

by Kym on January 24, 2010

We spent the weekend switching our upstairs bedroom with the girls’ downstairs one. It was sweaty, grueling work and I think my accident-prone self has wracked up more bruises and scratches in the past two days than the past two months combined.

Oh but it was fun. (Pictures Forthcoming)

There’s a sort of natural high that comes with change. It’s exhilarating and unpredictable and even more exhilarating BECAUSE it’s unpredictable. Then afterwards there’s this shivery sort of grinning feeling as you take it all in. Change smells like new potential and possibility. Like new pathways opening up into the wild where there were no paths before.

Our upstairs bedroom has slanted ceilings on either side, a half wall of built in drawers, a beautiful wood ceiling, no overhead light, and more space than Neil and I ever knew what to do with. He filled it with Lego, and I filled it with books and piles of clothes-that-don’t-fit-anymore-but-by-golly-WILL-again-some-day that I was always meaning to put away. What was a rather awkward space for Neil and I makes the perfect bedroom/playroom for the girls. And I’m already loving having our bedroom on the main floor.

Lesson of the Week? Change is good.

Some things though, as they say, never change. Like how dang cute our kids are.

Emma: I spy with my little eye, something that is green!
    Becca: Da trees?
Emma: Yeah! I spy with my little eye, something this is no colour!
    Becca: Da windows?
Emma: Yeah! I spy with my little eye, something that is slippery!
    Becca: Da ice?
Emma: Yeah! I spy with my little eye, something that is orange.
    Becca: An orange?
    Emma: Nooo…
    Becca: A peach?
    Emma: Nooo…it burns!
    Becca: Da colour orange?
Emma: No! It burns wood and it’s orange and it burn things!
    Becca: It’s orange.
Emma: Yes, but that’s not a guess!
    Becca: Da roof?
Emma: [In an exasperated tone] The roof isn’t orange!

    Game Over. Cue the squabbling.

    New post up at Crossroads!

Change is good. I’m hoping for change in the coming days, weeks, months. And will relish it when it comes.

So was her answer fire? ;)

Change IS good. I had a dream about rearranging my house and woke up feeling like I wanted to switch everything up. In the dream, it was a new house so that part won’t work but maybe I’ll move around the furniture and pretend.

Hmmmm, I might need to make some small changes around our house.

Change is good. Our home is set up in an odd way… makes it hard to move the furniture around… this is not a layout that I would have ever picked. Makes me glad that we’re renting :)

Sigh. I need to learn this. I’m all about keep-the-furniture-arranged-the-same-way-for-ten-years. I like constancy.

Plus I’m lazy.

Oooo. Now I’m thinking of ways to change things around. especially in my bedroom. That’s getting old.

I guess, for the moment, I’ll have to be content with hearts everywhere in a mad effort to decorate for Valentines Day. (It was the only way I could convince Seth to let me take down Christmas.)

I keep getting tempted to chuck the kitchen table and move the cool “dining” room table (used for after-work work and occasionally puzzles) into the kitchen. Then I remember it doesn’t fit. Oh, well.

Yeah, I love to change things ar ound here and there too. It always means sifting and getting rid of things, which makes me feel good!

I love the back and forth with your girls. So cute!

Totally true about the natural high from rearranging things! Sounds like your new setup is perfect!

“The roof isn’t orange!” How funny and cute those girls are!

(A quick side note, I read this yesterday and thought I commented! Silly me!!)

Yes, I think I would have argued with my sister about the color of fire. It always looked more yellow to me. : )

Your two little girls make me smile. I bet they love their little Claira!!
