Letters from Kim – #9
by Kym on April 19, 2010
Dear Kim,
You rock. Comparitively anyway. You’ve come a long way and it’s time to give yourself a little credit, girl. All your friends are telling you to stop with the harshness already and just love yourself. And cornball as that might sound they just happen to be right. Let the fear go. So your childhood had a few emotional pitfalls in it. Whose didn’t? Letting yourself enjoy the warm glow of self-respect and self-confidence and other great self-related concepts doesn’t mean you’ve got an inevitable smack-down in store. And people aren’t your friends just because they pity you in your woe-is-me-I’m-such-a-wretched-person state. Any friend you lose through being happier is a friend worth losing. And I know you’re scared to strut your stuff. You’re worried you’ll just fall and make a spectacle of yourself. But honey, you’ve got to learn that it’s okay to fall. That hiding in your house and skipping out on life is a way to feed your fear rather than fight it.
Remember who you were once. Remember how shy and ashamed you were every minute of every day. You aren’t that girl anymore. You have a love of life that is now burning with an incandescence that you simply can’t ignore. You are filled with a yearning to live and love and learn. Embrace that! I’m not going to promise you it won’t hurt, but I will promise you that it will be more than worth it. A thousand times worth it.
Now get dressed already. You’ve been up for an hour.
Much love,
The Version of You Who Can SEE
Dear Work in Progress,
Sorry about ripping you to shreds this weekend. I know it hurt. I know it was scary when we got to the point where none of the paragraphs seemed to fit together anymore. But we pulled through and you’re better than you were. Now, I know you’re probably feeling quite relieved that the horror is over, so I’m loathe to point this out but…
We’re probably going to do that another dozen times are so.
Stop gibbering like that. It hurts me too.
On the plus side? You totally crack me up and I can’t wait till you’re finished. Thanks for popping into my head the way you did.
Lovingly Albeit Menacingly,
The Author
Dear Microwave Popcorn,
Get thee hence!
That is all.
Staunchly,
She Who is Down Another Two Pounds Despite You!
Dear Blogging World,
I miss you. Truly. No matter how I struggle I just can’t seem to make time for writing AND blog reading. I hope to get my life better organized so I can but until then I won’t be around much. Hope to peek in every now and again so our friendships don’t disintegrate under the influence of my slackness.
With great affection,
Your friend?
Dear Utah,
I’ll be there in three days! Thursday the 22nd there’s a bash at Provo Borders for conference attendees and their friends. It runs from 6-10, I’ll be there around 8pm-ish. Please don’t leave early everyone. I might take it personally. And I’m bringing chocolate. Yes, apparently I’m still not above bribing people to like me.
Neurotically Yours,
Kim

Dear Kim:
It is always a pleasure to enter your brain.
I will also be in Utah on Thursday. There will be hugging and giggles, I’m afraid. But I won’t talk in Capitals or Exclamation points. (I think.)
Also, Blogs will remain, possibly forever, until you have time for them. Write. Write. Write.
XO
Becca

“Lovingly Albeit Menacingly,

Hee hee. Love that!
Congratulations on the book progress! You are awesome and I can’t wait to read it.
I know what you mean about blogging. I’m nearly caught up, and now I have to step away in order to get the house and family ready for the weekend. I can’t wait to see you Thursday!
Oh, and guess what? I had an idea for a chick litish type romance book last night, and stayed up to write four pages! The staying up part was stupid, but I’m rather excited about the whole premise.

This is one of your cornball friends who CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU VERY SOON!
And, no: writing and blogging don’t go together, not when there’s a baby in the mix. Ask me how I know.

Kim, you’ll be in Provo? I live in AF! That is awesome! I love the letter to yourself. And to the popcorn. LoL

We ran out of microwave popcorn about a month ago and I have been mourning it ever since. (But apparently not enough to actually purchase some more.)
I wish, wish, wish I lived closer!

So excited for you to go to Utah! It will be a blast. And so glad you’re finding time for writing (and ripping your writing to shreds)!

You are wonderful and you’re missed, but never misunderstood for not being able to have enough time. I hear you. I can’t keep up like I once could. But I think of all my blogging pals all the time.
And I love the work in progress part. I love all of it, but I just especially loved that.

I can’t come to Borders (pre-conference chaos!!!!), but I can’t wait to see you!

I totally hear you on the Blogging World letter.
I’ve fallen off the blog reading cycle. And part of me is really enjoying other things, like reading books with covers on them and pages. Real pages. But another part is curious what I’m missing in blogland, you know?
PS: “Get thee hence,” is a saying I use all the time. I smiled when I read it here. Mmmm, love popcorn so so much. Have you ever tried it with nacho cheese powder or taco seasoning? So mmmm.
PS: See you Thurs night. I’ll be there, for most def sure! Save a bit of chocolate for me!!
by Terresa Wellborn on April 19, 2010 at 5:26 pm. #
Chocolate will be nice but not a necessity! As always, I enjoy your letters.

Kim,
I completely understand the blogging and writing time dilemma I face it often. I have been absent from the blogosphere because of vacation.
Did I hear you say chocolate????
Hope to see you either at Borders or the conference.

Yes, I will add my comment to this great mix. Blogging, like everything else, sometimes takes a back shelf. That is okay!! The real friends you have made will understand.
P.S. Can’t wait for Borders!!
by Amber on April 19, 2010 at 8:04 pm. #
You do rock! Will try to make Borders (although as a non-writer and purely as a book/Kim lover)
