It is with great sadness that I report the death of a wish. Yes, it has withered up and DIED from lack of fulfillment, lo these many years. One might even go so far as to say that it has been murdered, and rather perversely the perpetrator of this great crime is my very own beloved, Neil. Those who know him or know of him may be shocked to hear this. He’s generally reputed to be[...]

Congratulations to Sandra and L.T., the two winners of my quotebook contest. Ladies, if you’ll email me your address I’ll get those off to you pronto!
For the most part, I read fantasy and science fiction. That’s been my main literary focus since I was about nine years old. It began with Narnia at age nine, The Hobbit at age ten, and Lord of the Rings shortly after that. Whimsy and wonder. The ineffable blending of[...]

I read a great deal of YA fiction. Partially because I’m currently attempting to write in that genre, but mostly because (on a good day) I have the emotional maturity of an average eighteen year old (no offense to eighteen year olds intended, truly). There’s just something about the struggles and strivings of characters who are on the brink of adulthood. Though technically I’ve long since passed into that realm myself, I still feel hesitant and awkward[...]

I wish I kept notes on how I met my blogging friends. After three years, I rarely have any idea when or how these friendships began. Such is the case with the ever lovely Annette Lyon. Last night, I closed the cover of this book (The Hound of Rowan), let out a satisfied sigh, and squirmed with delight. Neil was tip-tapping away on his laptop, and let out a sigh of his own. He knew what my sigh meant. It meant I was about to talk his ear off. Fortunately for him I knew what his sigh meant, so I merely grinned and wandered away, keeping the deliciousness of my recent experience to myself.
Well, mostly to[...]

Once upon a time there was a girl. A pretty dull, average, ordinary girl. The kind that could easily blend into a crowd. Heck, there was even something almost Clark Kent-esque about her. She was almost too normal.
If you imagined her to be the sort to lead a secret double life you’d actually be right.
This girl? Had an incredibly amazing superpower the likes of which has never been seen by man or beast[...]

So I’m very much in writing mode at the moment. I’m struggling with rewrites and getting dizzy from doing loop-de-loops on this massive learning curve I’ve been swept up by. I’ve been trying various techniques to get into the right headspace. Music and meditation. Staring at the computer screen and hoping something good will happen. Hitting said computer screen repeatedly with my head. And reading good books.
I have an enormous stack of books on[...]

There ought to have been a warning label. Something along the lines of: Reading this series may have seriously detrimental effects on your social life, physical well being, and mental stability. The fabulousness contained within may fascinate the reader to such a degree that they will read the entirety of the trilogy in less than two days whilst their life slowly crumbles around them. Only when the reader emerges from the blissful fog of literary captivation will[...]
